🎓 McGill B.A. (Education) 2026 Internship Expo!

Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of attending McGill University's Internship Expo, connecting with students looking to bring their education skills into the workforce.

We hosted a kiosk with free resources and swag, chatted with students about what literacy means to them, and explored ways they can support our Member Network. Their thoughtful and refreshing perspectives made the experience even more meaningful.💙

Our Executive Director, Faye Siluk, also took part in the speed networking portion of the event, sharing how she applied the skills from her education degree to her career.

Thank you to McGill University and all the students who stopped by to chat with us.

Everyday skills open doors.

Today is Skills for Success Day, a time to recognize the skills that help us learn, work, and navigate everyday life.

Reading, writing, numeracy, digital skills, problem solving, communication, collaboration, adaptability, and creativity and innovation are all part of the picture. These skills build on one another and help us keep learning and adapting as life changes.

As part of the Community Empowerment Literacy Initiative (CELI), TALQ, Literacy Quebec, and PERT have released the CELI 2026 Inventory of English-Language Literacy, Essential Skills & Employment Programs in Quebec, featuring 381 active programs across the province.

🔎 Explore the inventory and find out what resources are available:

We would also like to thank all CELI partners for their contributions to this project as a whole: TALQ - formerly QCGN Regional Development Network - RDN Provincial Employment Roundtable - Table ronde provinciale sur l’emploi Cedec

🗳️ Accessible information helps people participate.

Literacy Quebec welcomes today’s court decision requiring Élections Québec to send election reminder cards in both French and English. Clear, accessible information is essential for participation in our democracy. This decision will help more English-speaking electors understand where and how to vote. While the solution is limited, this decision is an important step toward ensuring that language and literacy are not barriers to exercising the right to vote.

International Literacy Day - Free Books and Trivia!📚💙

On September 8th, we set up a booth at Parc du Souvenir in Verdun, where we shared free books for children, teens, and adults, and invited visitors to test their knowledge with our spin-the-wheel trivia game. We also chatted about the importance of literacy and the work Literacy Quebec does to promote literacy skills development in Quebec’s English-speaking communities through our Members, networking, collaboration, and advocacy.

We were thrilled to share approximately 100 books and connect with so many people. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, played a round of trivia, picked up a book, or took a few minutes to learn more about literacy.

🗳️ Access to information matters.

Élections Québec says it will not mail voting information documents in English for the 2026 provincial election, citing changes to Quebec’s language laws. This will make it harder for some people, especially seniors, to access important information about voting.

Clear, accessible information helps people understand their rights, make informed decisions, and participate fully in society.

Literacy is about more than reading and writing. It also includes being able to find, understand, and use information in everyday life.

Thank you Seniors Action Quebec - Les Aînés Action Québec and TALQ - formerly QCGN for raising awareness about this important issue.

📰 We’re in the Montreal Gazette!

We’re proud to have placed an ad for International Literacy Day in the Montreal Gazette to help spread the word about the free literacy tutoring, programs, and activities our network offers to English-speaking communities across Quebec.

Literacy skills are part of everyday life—from reading and writing to using digital tools, understanding health information, and managing our finances. If you or someone you know would like to strengthen these skills, support is available. 💙
