Alyssa and Micah’s engagement session took them from the field at Beacon Hill Park down to the rocks along Dallas Road, with golden light and a lot of easy laughter along the way.

The purpose of an engagement session for us isn’t just the portraits, it’s to photograph the you that’s a little nervous, a little giddy, and completely yourselves.

Patrick and his twin boys were such a blast to photograph.

We waited out a pretty good rainstorm in Santa Monica before heading out to explore the park and the beach together. It ended up being one of those sessions where nothing felt rushed. Just the three of them hanging out, laughing, climbing, exploring, and genuinely enjoying each other’s company.

What I loved most was how naturally affectionate the boys were with their dad. Lots of hugs, knee rides, hand-holding, and plenty of laughs. It’s always a privilege to document families exactly as they are, and these three made that easy.

When the lighting test ends up being just as good as the photo shoot that followed!

I couldn’t decide what to post so I asked my friend to help me out with this post… here’s what she said 🙂

“I looked through Rob and Julia’s wedding gallery page a few times. I’m a sentimental type, but also love a perfectly captured moment and a stunning scene. I found I kept being drawn to the images where raw emotion was captured - between bride and groom, mother and daughter, friends, and family members.

I was also drawn to photos that were so perfectly captured and could never be re-created if tried (like seagulls flying through the frame) and the ones that are so understatedly beautiful.

And of course the multi-generations and the unfilteredness they bring.

Looking through these again and again, I really think it shows the diversity in Rob and Julia’s capabilities. Their expert ability in framing an image, positioning themselves to capture “the moment,” and ability to put people at ease and let them be themselves in order to capture the raw and unfiltered.

Dr. duPreez is part of the fantastic team at RebalanceMD, and whenever one of us gets injured (which seems to happen more often than it should 😅), he patiently puts up with our stressed-out texts and somehow makes everything make sense.

We gifted them this session as a small thank you for all the ways they’ve shown up for us over the years.

We’re so lucky to call these wonderful humans our friends and neighbours. 🫶🏼
