Grassy Narrows First Nation’s River Run is happening right now in Toronto! Meet at Grange Park to join Grassy Narrows in solidarity as they demand justice for the mercury poisoning that has been affecting their community for decades.

Can’t make it to the march? This week, every dollar you give to support their legal challenge will be matched up to $20,000, dollar-for-dollar. By donating today, you will help raise an incredible $40,000 for Grassy Narrows as they seek justice through the legal system.

Grassy Narrows’ legal case is taking Canada and Ontario to court to demand environmental cleanup, compensation, and the protection of their Treaty rights, as today, roughly 90% of tested community members suffer from severe mercury poisoning. Despite this, the government continues to permit industrial waste dumping that makes the mercury contamination even worse.

This lawsuit isn’t just about accountability for past harms—it’s about securing clean, safe water and a food system for generations to come.

Give now at raventrust.com/grassy-narrows/ or at the link in our bio to double your donation and support their legal challenge.

We’re marching with Grassy Narrows First Nation!

Join RAVEN as we march with Grassy Narrows youth, leaders, and community members for mercury justice on Wednesday, September 23rd at 12pm at Granger Park in Toronto.

The devastating mercury crisis in Grassy Narrows First Nation has persisted for decades, ever since a pulp mill discharged 10 tonnes of mercury waste upstream in the 1960s, with little action from governments to help the people.

To this day, Grassy Narrows people have not received fair compensation for the serious impacts of the ongoing mercury crisis on their health, culture, and livelihoods. Meanwhile, proposals for new mines and a nuclear waste disposal site upstream threaten to make things worse.

Meet up early with RAVEN staff at Carbonic Coffee (37 Baldwin St.) at 11:30am, and we can walk over to the march together!

Show your solidarity and RSVP for the march at freegrassy.net, and follow FreeGrassy: Grassy Narrows Solidarity for more info!

RAVEN Book Club: The End of This World 09/12/2026

Join RAVEN online via Zoom on November 12, 2026 at 5pm PT (6pm MT, 8pm ET) to discuss the book The End of This World: Climate Justice in So-Called Canada.

The book features writing from many authors, including Crystal Lameman, the litigation representative for the Beaver Lake Cree Nation’s legal challenge that RAVEN supports.

More about Beaver Lake Cree Nation’s Legal Action:

Beaver Lake Cree Nation is going to court to defend its rights to hunt, fish, and practice their culture as guaranteed under Treaty 6. In the process, the First Nation is also pushing back against one of the largest and most carbon-intensive energy developments on the planet: the Alberta Oil Sands. Thanks to a generous donor, we are able to match donations leading up to the trial

Registration is free. Donations support Beaver Lake Cree Nation’s legal challenge. Register to join the discussion at

RAVEN Book Club: The End of This World RAVEN's next virtual book club will be discussing "The End of This World: Climate Justice in So-Called Canada"

In October 2016, a tug without a certified pilot ran aground and spilled more than 110,000 litres of diesel oil into Haíłzaqv (Heiltsuk) Nation's waters in the Great Bear Rainforest

Nearly 10 years later, critical marine harvesting sites remain inaccessible. Stand with Haíłzaqv. Add your voice. Hold Canada accountable!

Does your Nation need funding to access justice according to your own laws and protocols?

RAVEN’s Community Action Fund provides up to $20,000 per court phase (trial, appeal, or Supreme Court of Canada).

The Community Action Fund covers expenses outside litigation, such as (but not limited to): travel for elders to attend court to provide support; food and medicines for feasts and ceremonies to prepare for a case; and language translation to help community members understand what is being argued in hearings.

This way, we can support access to justice grounded in cultural protocols and legal orders, not just the Canadian legal system.

There have been over 1,300 signatures to our pledge in solidarity with Haíłzaqv (Heiltsuk) Nation and their legal challenge so far. Along with signatures, there have also been hundreds of comments of support. We are passing on your words of solidarity to Haíłzaqv Nation so they know they are not alone in their pursuit of justice.

On October 13th, 2016, a tugboat ran aground and spilled over 110,000 litres of diesel oil in Haíłzaqv waters. Now, almost 10 years later, the Nation still hasn’t been fully compensated by the federal government for the harms they have suffered to their food systems, economy, and way of life.

A win for Haíɫzaqv in court could toughen oil spill regulations on coasts all across Canada and set a precedent for Aboriginal title to the seabed. It would also strengthen Haíɫzaqv jurisdiction so they can manage their ocean territory according to Haíɫzaqv laws.

Add your voice and help us reach 5,000 signatures by the 10-year anniversary of the spill on October 13th, 2026. Sign now at raventrust.com/heiltsuk-pledge/
