Happy International Podcast Day — eighteen years of doing this, and for once I wasn't the one asking the questions.

I was in New York for Podcast Movement, my daughter Grace came down from Montreal to meet me, and since we were both sitting in Kit - formerly ConvertKit Studios anyway we turned the tables. She wrote her own questions. She hadn't read the book. I had no idea where any of it was going, which is exactly what made it worth recording.

She also reminded me on air that she used to write the show notes for this podcast as a teenager for twenty dollars an episode, which I had completely forgotten and which she has clearly not.

I'm back after a week away in New York for Podcast Movement, and this week's episode is a solo effort — appropriately enough, about what happens when you step away from something and then have to come back to it.

Here's a four-second test from it worth running on yourself: name who was waiting. If you can name them — a client, an editor, your kid, a reader — then you've got a real thing to go address. If you look and there's nobody there, you didn't fall behind. You stopped. And nobody sends a bill for stopping. The episode gets into the difference between those two, the three ways people fumble the return, and what I've found makes coming back actually hold.
