Basecamp Dog Co

So what does a boarding day at Basecamp actually look like? 🐾

There isn’t a strict minute-by-minute schedule because every dog is different, but our days generally revolve around a few things: routine, outside time, company and plenty of downtime.

Mornings usually start with a bathroom break, breakfast and getting outside. From there, we settle into our workday and because we both work from home, the dogs are usually right there with us.

Some nap beside our desks. Some follow us around the house. Some would happily spend half the day investigating the backyard. 😂

We make sure walks and outdoor time are part of the stay rather than an optional add-on. We also adjust activity based on the dog in front of us, a young energetic dog may want a bigger outing, while a senior dog might be much happier with a leisurely sniff around the neighbourhood and an afternoon on the couch.

Evenings are dinner, another outside break or walk, relaxing at home, and photo updates so you can see how things are going.

And with a maximum of two guest dogs at a time, we have the flexibility to actually adapt the day around them.
The goal isn’t to give every dog the exact same vacation.
It’s to make Basecamp feel as close to their version of a good day as possible.

Basecamp is more than just dog boarding, and we designed the services around the fact that not every dog is happiest in the same environment. 🏡🐕

Dog Boarding:
For social dogs who enjoy being part of another household. Boarding takes place in our Cochrane home and we keep it intentionally small with no more than two guest dogs at once.

House Sitting:
Sometimes the best Basecamp really is home. For dogs who are anxious in new places, older, reactive, part of a multi-pet household, or simply happiest in their own bed, we can stay with them in their familiar environment and maintain their normal routine.

Drop-In Visits;
Perfect when you don’t need overnight care but want someone to stop in for bathroom breaks, meals, medication, playtime or simply some company.

Trail-Inspired Treats:
This is the fun new piece we’re building into Basecamp. 🌲 We’re developing small-batch dog treats and outdoor-inspired treat boxes that can be purchased separately or added onto stays.

Eventually, we want Basecamp to feel like one complete little dog brand: thoughtful care when you’re away + something fun to bring home afterward.

Meet the humans behind Basecamp Dog Co. 👋🏔️

We’re Dedra & Garron, a husband-and-wife team based in Cochrane with a pretty simple idea behind Basecamp: we wanted to offer the kind of dog care we’d want for our own dogs.

Dogs have been a big part of our lives for well over a decade, and Dedra has years of professional dog walking and pet-care experience, 100+ five-star reviews, and pet first aid certification.

These days, we both work from home, which makes dog boarding fit naturally into our everyday life. Dogs staying with us aren’t waiting around all day for someone to come home, they’re hanging out nearby while we work, heading into the fenced yard, joining us for walks, getting attention throughout the day, and settling into our normal household routine.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find us hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing or finding some excuse to head toward the mountains, which is a big part of where the Basecamp idea came from.

We’re intentionally keeping this business small. We’d much rather know each dog really well than operate a house full of dogs.

Thanks for following along as we build Basecamp. 🌲
