The "Sportboat Revolution" is officially here, and the energy at Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club on Wednesday was awesome

We had a fantastic time chatting ORC Sportboat and measurement at SNSYC. It was a brilliant evening diving into the technical complexities that make this class so dynamic. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to discuss the future of racing.

A special shoutout to Mike Wills(Layline Marine Survey)for leading the measurement charge. As well as the great organisers of the Patos Island Race. We spent the session exploring how ORC measurements are the backbone of fair, competitive racing and the use cases for the Sport Boat Class. By using dynamic ratings, we’re not just racing: we’re building a level playing field where skill and strategy truly shine.

At Black Wolf Racing, we’re hoping to see this community grow. Whether you're a seasoned pro or looking to get into sportboat racing, the momentum is building, and we’re here to help you get on the water with confidence.

Ever heard a 'Salty Dip' shared on the docks after a long day of racing? 🇨🇦⚓️

These legendary stories: or 'dips': are a core part of the Royal Canadian Navy’s rich heritage right here in the Pacific Northwest. From the mess decks in Esquimalt to the cockpits of our local racing fleet, the tradition of storytelling has always been the thread that binds our maritime community together.

For decades, the RCN has been a cornerstone of life on Vancouver Island. Many of the skills, the discipline, and that unique brand of seafaring humour we see on the water today can be traced back to the sailors who called these harbours home. It’s more than just history; it’s a living stewardship of the sea that we’re proud to carry forward.

Whether it’s a tale of a snapped prop shaft in a gale or a brilliant tactical masterclass under a kite at sunset, these stories keep the spirit of PNW sailing alive.

What’s your favourite 'Salty Dip' from your time on the water? Drop a flag in the comments or tell us your story below! 👇
