The federal government is tabling legislation this week that will ban social media platforms for Canadian kids under the age of 16. While the upcoming online safety bill establishes a strict age limit, tech platforms can apply for exemptions if they prove their products can keep young users safe.

The new rules will also set a firm framework of responsibilities for AI chatbots, though chatbots will not face the same outright ban. This massive legislative push follows years of pressure from child safety advocates to regulate tech harms after a previous attempt died in Parliament in 2025.

Ontario school boards and local health organizations have long voiced concerns over youth screen habits, making this a major shift for thousands of Toronto families.

Congrats!

It’s an incredible honor to be recognized by TIME on their TIME100 list as an Icon in Sports alongside so many inspiring people.

To be honest, recognition like this always feels a little surreal. Even after all these years, there’s still a part of me that wonders, “Is this real?”

I’ve been fortunate enough to stand on top of the podium 121 times on the world stage, and I can honestly say it has never felt routine. Maybe from the outside, repeated success can start to look ordinary. Maybe that’s why some people call it boring. But from the inside, it’s anything but.

I still care deeply. I still get nervous. I’m still motivated to improve. I’m still chasing the perfect turn.

What means the most to me is being able to use the opportunities this sport has given me…not only to pursue excellence in skiing, but also to support causes I care about (like Share Winter Foundation) and hopefully make a positive impact along the way.

And none of it happens alone.

I’m endlessly grateful for my family, coaches, teammates, sponsors, friends, and all of you who have supported me through every high and low. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Much love,
Miki
