Our Belong Steering Group recently met at Pfenning’s Organic Farm in New Hamburg, marking the first time a BSG meeting has taken place in a rural community.
Members spent the afternoon connecting, reflecting on highlights from 2026 and looking ahead to 2027. They also had the chance to tour the farm and learn more about its work and the experiences of newcomers working in agriculture.
Thank you to our BSG members for joining us, to Pfenning’s Organic Farm for having us and to Engage Rural for helping make this connection possible!

Today, we joined the City of Kitchener to celebrate the launch of Kitchener’s first Municipal Newcomer Strategy.
Our Executive Director, Tara, shared a few reflections on what it means to build a welcoming community.
“This region has been shaped by movement. We are changing every day, and every person has something special.”
Creating a welcoming community is a shared responsibility. It takes all of us listening, learning and working together.
It was great to be there alongside community members, partners and others who are committed to making Kitchener a more welcoming place.
Congratulations to the City of Kitchener on this milestone. We’re looking forward to seeing this strategy take shape in the community.
