Tomorrow, September 30, is National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.

To deepen our understanding of the significance of this history, as well as explore materials written by Indigenous authors and storytellers, we have curated materials from our collection which can be found on our display shelves at the Main Branch, with even more titles to discover in our collection across all of our branches.

We also invite you to participate in drop-in crafting activities available at all branches, and view the educational films (pictured here) at our Diamond Trail Branch on September 30 from 4:30–7:30pm.

There is still time to send us your feedback!

At the beginning of the summer, we asked the community for their input on Welland Public Library, and where we should be setting our sights for the next 15 years. The response was incredible, and that feedback helped shape the first draft of our Community Needs Assessment.

🔗Click here to read through the draft assessment, and tell us what you think by clicking the button "Click to Provide Feedback Online".

📋Feedback form will be available in-branch and on our website from now until October 2, 2026.

MEDIA RELEASE | September 30 is a day to remember, reflect, listen, and learn.

For National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, there will be several opportunities across Welland for our community to come together and learn more about Indigenous histories, experiences, and perspectives.

The day begins with a flag raising at Civic Square at 10 a.m., followed by film screenings at the Welland Museum. Later in the day, the Welland Public Library’s Diamond Trail Branch will host an all-ages program with videos, library materials, and activities from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

These opportunities give us space to honour survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities while continuing to learn about the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools.

First raised in 1975, the green and white Franco-Ontarian flag has become a lasting symbol of Francophone pride across Ontario.
