Meet Sally, our Executive Assistant at S5 DLI! 💙

Sally enjoys connecting with people, supporting the team, and—of course—bothering her coworkers! 😄

Outside of work, she loves exploring new places and cultures, watching movies that give her a good cry 🎬, and rock climbing! 🧗‍♀️ Her dream skill? Learning new languages so she can connect with even more people around the world. 🌎

🧡 **September 30 | National Day for Truth and Reconciliation** 🧡

Today, S5 DLI joins people across Canada in recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

We honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

Today is a time to listen, learn, reflect, and recognize the lasting impacts of the residential school system.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. We encourage everyone to take time today to learn about the histories, experiences, cultures, and voices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

👀 Did you know? Visual attention matters!

When communicating in ASL, being able to see each other is important. Signing is visual, so looking away or focusing on your phone can make communication harder.

Facing the person, keeping a clear view, and giving your attention can help communication go more smoothly.

Small changes can make a big difference in creating respectful and accessible communication.

Did you know? ASL is a complete language.

American Sign Language has its own grammar and sentence structure. ASL is not simply English shown on the hands.

Like other languages, ASL is a rich way to share ideas, stories, feelings, and information.

During Deaf Awareness Month, we’re sharing simple facts to help build more understanding about Deaf culture, language, and communication. 💙
