The Whycocomagh Public Library is pleased to announce that we will be hosting three workshops, over the next two months, run by Parks Canada.
❓What You’ll Do:
🐋Whale of a Tale - September 25
This workshop puts the spotlight on waters surrounding Cape Breton and the marine species that inhabit them. Join Parks Canada for Whale of a Tale to learn about ocean pollution and the part we can play in keeping our waters clean! Suitable for elementary school students and families. Also, a fun way to spend an inservice day!
🪁Kite Making - October 10
Ready to build, fly, and have some fun? Come see if you have what it takes to build your very own tetrahedral kite! All materials are provided for this fun, hands-on 45-minute family activity.
⛺Camping 101 - October 31
Get ready for a camping adventure, right here at the library! Join Parks Canada for Camping 101, a fun, hands-on program where kids can explore what it’s like to camp in the great outdoors. We’ll have a tent, sleeping bags, cooler, toy food, and an adorable plush campfire complete with marshmallows! Enjoy campfire stories, seasonal activities like fall leaf rubbings, and plenty of camping fun. Suitable for elementary school students and families.

Please note, Monday September 9, 2026 the Whycocomagh Public Library will be closed from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The library will reopen at 11:00 a.m. with some services possibly being impacted. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The Library is OPEN today from noon to 4:00 p.m., despite power outages and flooding in the area.
Some services may be impacted by outages, but stop by and charge your phone, browse the collection, enjoy a warm cup of tea or a snack from our community pantry, and enjoy a family craft or game.

The Whycocomagh Public Library is happy to help host, along with the Whycocomagh Waterfront Centre, a serise of events next Thursay night!
❓What is on the go Thursday September 10th?
📱Mastering Your Smartphone and Computer: Drop-in and bring your smartphone, laptop, ipad, and more to have some questions you have been meaning to ask answered, and learn more about navigating your device, scam and phishing awareness, how to use social media, and more!
This event will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Waterfront Centre's hall. Food and drinks will also be provided.
💃Learn to Salsa* (Registration Required): Learn to Salsa, for beginers or professonals, on the boardwalk just outside the Whycocomagh Public Library!
This event will take place between 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. outside, on the boardwalk, around the back of the Waterfront Centre.

🍲What Flavours Remind You of Home: An evening dedicated to food; and how we season it. Explore what it takes to turn your culinary dreams into a REAL buisness—through the Centre for Women in Buisness' SPICE Program!
This event will be held between 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Waterfront Centre's hall. Food and drinks will also be provided.
