🧡 Orange Shirt Day - September 30, 2026
There are many reasons why we wear orange: to remember and acknowledge ongoing colonial history, to show solidarity, to raise awareness, and to let others know we are a safe person to talk to. Remembrance also means facing present-day truths. Indigenous Peoples still face cultural genocide today — through the disproportionate apprehension of Indigenous children by welfare agencies, higher rates of incarceration and homelessness, and unequal access to education, healthcare, and even clean drinking water. Hydro is also part of this ongoing story of colonialism: communities displaced, waters diverted, voices sidelined, licences renewed without consent.
September 30th is not only a reminder of the past, but of these present-day realities.
