During the onboarding, the interns had the opportunity to meet two Manitoba NEIHR P*s, Drs. Amanda Fowler-Woods and Ashley Hayward, and learn about positionality statements (and practice writing their own!) and the importance of mentorship. They also had the privilege of learning from Indigenous health researchers in Manitoba and their unique career journeys. ✨

The 2026 Undergraduate Summer Research Internship is officially underway!
Last week, our interns participated in a 3-day onboarding grounded in community, culture, and intention. We opened with a smudging ceremony at Mashkiki Gitigaan Medicine Garden led by Knowledge Keeper, George Muswaggon, who shared teachings to guide their research journey. Medicine Carrier, Dr. Amanda Fowler-Woods, followed with a to***co tie ceremony, inviting each intern to offer their intentions for the summer internship. A beautiful start to an exciting summer of learning and growth. 🌱
