Louis Riel Institute

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Ledoux, former Chair of the Louis Riel Institute.

Joan played a vital role in the development of LRI, and her leadership, dedication, and unwavering contributions to the MMF, LRI, and the Red River Métis community will always be remembered. We are deeply grateful for the legacy she leaves behind.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to her family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her. May she rest in peace.

Louis Riel Institute

Published in 1885, The history of the North-west rebellion of 1885 by C.P. Mulvaney is an English-Canadian recounting of the 1885 North-West Rebellion. The book was hastily prepared to appeal to the biases of many English-speaking Canadians at the time. Mulvaney was a former English-Canadian soldier, and this book reflects his pro-military beliefs, as he glorifies the exploits and violence of Canadian-English soldiers. The book also includes woodblock prints of important figures such as Louis Riel, Gabriel Dumont, and Big Bear.
