💡 Broadband Acoustic Modal Identification by Combined Sensor Array Measurements
🧑🎓 by Kunbo Xu and colleagues
This research presents a synchronous measurement method for broadband acoustic modal identification using a combined microphone array, addressing the issue of acoustic modal aliasing with fewer microphones. The method enhances testing efficiency in identifying circumferential and radial modes and is validated through numerical simulations and experiments on an axial flow compressor, demonstrating its effectiveness in noise reduction evaluations.

💡 Applicability of Traditional Acoustic Technology for Underwater Archeology: A Case Study of Model Detection in Xiamen Bay
🧑🎓 by Xudong Fang and colleagues
This study addresses the applicability of conventional marine acoustic technologies for detecting non-metal artifacts. Based on the typical environment in Xiamen Bay, we evaluated the detection efficacy of common multibeam sonar, side-scan sonar, and sub-bottom profiling sonar through a controlled model experiment system. We employed ceramic artifact replicas (ranging in size from 10 to 70 cm) and incorporated acoustic parameter optimization to elucidate the applicability boundaries of different technologies.

💡 An Impedance Model for Angle-Dependent Sound Reflection and Absorption with Diffraction Effects
🧑🎓 by Jens Holger Rindel
The research presents an impedance model for analyzing sound reflection and absorption at an aperture, revealing that the sound absorption coefficient of an open window is angle-dependent and decreases at low frequencies. It identifies two diffraction effects—refraction and scattering—and introduces a revised model that accounts for these effects, validating it against measured sound absorption data. The study also discusses implications for room acoustic calculation models.

An Impedance Model for Angle-Dependent Sound Reflection and Absorption with Diffraction Effects Traditionally, an open window is considered a kind of reference for perfect sound absorption. The sound reflection and absorption of an aperture is analyzed by means of an impedance model representing a rectangular absorbing surface surrounded by a thin, infinite rigid baffle. The most important par...

💡 Robust Blind Algorithm for DOA Estimation Using TDOA Consensus
🧑🎓 by Danilo Greco (Politecnico di Milano)
This paper presents a robust blind algorithm for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation that utilizes a novel Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) consensus framework to effectively filter outliers and enhance performance in challenging acoustic environments. The algorithm demonstrates significant improvements in DOA estimation accuracy, achieving up to 30% reduction in root mean square error compared to traditional methods, particularly in noisy and reverberant conditions, while maintaining feasibility for real-time applications without prior knowledge of the acoustic environment.
