IOM Nepal

On 26 August 2026, sudden and severe flash floods affected communities across Dhading, Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts in Nepal.

Within 24 hours, the International Organization for Migration deployed a Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) emergency tracking exercise to support the Government-led response, collecting critical information on displacement and vulnerabilities to better understand the situation.

Findings from the initial exercise are indicative estimates reported by key informants and should not be interpreted as exact or verified population counts, particularly given access constraints and the rapidly evolving situation.

IOM Europe and Central Asia

Strengthening DTM capacities across the MENA region 🌍

This week, DTM colleagues from across the Middle East and North Africa are coming together in Cairo for a three-day regional technical training focused on strengthening collaboration, technical capacity and shared approaches to mobility data.

Through hands-on sessions and peer-to-peer exchange, colleagues are exploring DTM methodologies and tools, the Route-Based Approach, the DTM Data Kit, GIS, climate vulnerability analysis and data for solutions. The workshop also creates space for country teams to share operational experiences, challenges and lessons learned from across the region.

By bringing regional, country and global expertise together, the training is helping advance more harmonized, comparable and high-quality mobility data to support evidence-based programming across MENA.

📊 Uzbek Migrants in Kazakhstan: Key Findings

Based on interviews with 1,163 Uzbek migrants across 8 regions and 3 cities in Kazakhstan, the report highlights migrants' employment profiles, income levels, and their contribution to household livelihoods through remittances.
💰 Average monthly income: USD 497
🏗️ Main sectors of employment: Construction (48%) and Personal services (18%)
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 38% are the primary breadwinners for their families
🏠💸 For 46% of respondents, remittances are the main source of income for family members back home
