The Business Entrepreneur students of Tereora College attended a workshop this week to kickstart the Young Enterprise Scheme, YES programme.
Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the workshop had guest speakers and entrepreneurs to provide feedback and share tips, and mentor Phillip Henderson, CEO of Vodafone helped guide the students through a business plan.
Ani Talbot from the Chamber of Commerce says the students came up with a lot of ideas, and learnt the concepts of cost of manufacture, wholesale and retail pricing and how to define their target market.
The students were challenged to design a product or service that will help tackle relevant issues in the Cook Islands.
Some of the ideas that students came up with included an emergency tracker app to help track a victim of abuse and violence, a recruitment unit for unemployed youth to address the unemployment rates, and healthy, organic ice blocks and ice-cream to be sold in outlets and gyms to combat the NCD epidemic.
All students will go to the Dragons Den in October this year to pitch their product and business plan to a panel of judges, before marketing their product.
