Cheers to 40 years on the harbour! 👏🥂
Since opening its doors on 6 June 1986, Trader Jacks Rarotonga has become one of Rarotonga's most iconic institutions. It has welcomed generations of locals and visitors through changing times, several cyclones, celebrations big and small, and countless sunsets over the water with stories shared over a meal or a drink.

To mark the 40-year anniversary, Trader Jacks is celebrating throughout the week with live music, special events and plenty of opportunities to look back on the stories that have made Trader Jack's what it is today. The festivities kick off today with Jack's Bar Banter - a light-hearted birthday week quiz and story series featuring Trader Jacks throwbacks, local history, cheeky 80s trivia and plenty of "who remembers when?" moments. Some questions will happen over the mic, some on social media and some completely at random, with prizes up for grabs along the way. Throughout the week, you can enjoy live entertainment including Jarome with Mana Strings and DJ Wheelie's Vinyl '86 session, before the main birthday celebration on Saturday, featuring a flag raising, blessing, food, music and festivities throughout the day and evening.
Whether you've been part of the story for 40 years or 40 minutes, the Trader Jacks team is inviting you to come down, share a memory, enjoy the music and celebrate this remarkable milestone with them!
Walking through the inland of Atiu, the track to Anatakitaki Cave moves through quiet limestone and dense greenery 🌿
Inside the cave, everything slows down. Cool air, echoing spaces, and a sense of stillness that’s hard to describe.
This is where you can come across the Kopeka - a small native bird found only here in the Island of Atiu- moving through the dark caves in its own way, adapted completely to this environment.
Just one of those places that stays with you long after you’ve left.
The first Christchurch flight of the season has officially landed, which means island time is back on the schedule! ✈️
Yesterday marked the start of Air New Zealand’s direct Christchurch to Rarotonga service. 🥳 The seasonal service will operate up to three times a week through to October, with flights departing Christchurch every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The connection provides South Island travellers with easier access to the Cook Islands, perfectly timed for a winter escape. ☀️🌴
