What if the biggest barrier to innovation isn't a lack of ideas, but starting with the wrong problem?

That was one of the biggest takeaways from Day One of the Design Thinking Bootcamp, organized by ULEVUS and AIMS CameroonCameroon in Limbe.

Yesterday, participants from various disciplines, including but not limited to computer science, statistics, mathematics, data analysis, oceanography, and many more, came together with one shared purpose: learning how to apply Design Thinking within their problem-solving process.

The first day was not just about learning the five processes of Design Thinking, but about understanding and connecting with the people for whom the solutions are being created.

Together, we explored questions such as:
• What is design beyond aesthetics?
• Who is a designer?
• Why is critical thinking essential before making decisions?
• How does Design Thinking help us create impactful and innovative workplace and career growth?

These conversations quickly moved beyond theory.

Participants worked in teams to identify real human-centered challenges, challenge their own assumptions, and experience the Design Thinking process through a hands-on sprint. Watching different perspectives come together around a common goal reminded us that innovation is rarely the result of one brilliant idea; it is the outcome of curiosity, collaboration, and empathy.

Perhaps the most important lesson from Day One was this:
Great solutions don't begin with answers. They begin with understanding people.

When we take the time to listen, observe, and empathize, we stop solving symptoms and begin addressing the problems that truly matter.
Today, the Bootcamp moves from practice to application.

Participants will tackle real workplace challenges, applying the Design Thinking process to develop innovative, human-centered solutions that create value from within organizations.
The journey has only just begun.

At the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences - AIMS, we see internships for our students as more than an opportunity to apply what you've learned. For us, they are an opportunity to identify challenges, take initiative, and contribute ideas that create real value for our host.

Reason why we are backing this believe with pre-Internship Bootcamp which prepares our students to be more than extras in the innovation journeys of our partners.

Together with our friends at Ulevus, we are committing three days of our schedule next week to a design thinking camp designed to prepare our cooperative masters students to step into internships and professional environments as proactive problem-solvers and value creators.

Through practical, hands-on sessions, they will learn how to identify challenges within an organization, understand the people at the heart of the problem those challenges, develop practical solutions, and present their ideas in a way that earns support from decision-makers

This camp will prepare our students to become active contributors wherever they go, professionals who do not only carry out assigned tasks, but who help drive innovation and contribute to the growth of the organizations they join

This is part of AIMS Cameroon's commitment to developing graduates who combine strong technical skills with the ability to solve real-world problems and create lasting impact

We will be doing this at our campus, in Ngeme, Limbe from the 8th to 10th of July 2026

Every workday begins with ideas.

In fact, you're generating approximately 6 ideas every minute as you prepare to solve the challenges waiting for you at work.

But ideas alone don't create impact. Great solutions require the right process.

That's why ULEVUS, in partnership with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Cameroon, is hosting the Design Thinking Bootcamp: Design Thinking for Intrapreneurship & the Workplace.

Learn how to:
✔ Understand the real problem
✔ Think from a human-centered perspective
✔ Collaborate effectively
✔ Turn workplace challenges into innovative solutions

The future belongs to professionals who don't just solve problems—they redesign possibilities.
