VIEW | A new study highlights the role of von Willebrand factor (VWF) multimer composition in thrombo-complement microvascular injury. Using a type 2A VWD mouse model, researchers found that reduced high-molecular-weight VWF multimers were associated with less microvascular thrombosis, complement accumulation, fibrin deposition, and organ injury following LPS-induced TMA-like injury.

The findings suggest that VWF-mediated platelet adhesion may play an important role in propagating microvascular injury, offering potential insights into therapeutic strategies for complement-mediated TMA and TTP.
