If you're in Antwerp or nearby, see you at Convergence: Seminar on Co-creative Strategies in Interdisciplinary Artistic Practices, taking place at Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, March 10-11!
I'm so happy that I've been accepted again, to present parts of my work/research in intermedia... I participated in last year's Convergence and had a wonderful time, surrounded by inspiring people - really looking forward to meeting familiar and unfamiliar faces, and spending some time in Antwerp and at the Conservatory again ✨

Inspired by “The Elusive Digital Frame and the Elasticity of Time in Painting” (2012), a Fine Art PhD thesis by Anne Elizabeth Robinson that I’ve recently read (https://repository.londonmet.ac.uk/7458/1/573406.pdf), I conducted an experiment with digital painting recorded in real time, directly from the computer screen. The aim was to observe my painting process, from an outside perspective, to see how the layers change and transmute the painting over time, how my attention shifts across the painting, and how it affects the overall process.
The painting session/original recording, 1 hour and 14 seconds long, was sped up 16 times, then divided into 9 smaller screens consisting of different parts of the painting, zoomed in (from top left to bottom right corner), and re-arranged randomly into a new video.
The result was an unexpected painterly motion comic strip, with the “narrative” taking place across multiple panels simultaneously, framed by gutters opening up spaces for us to imagine what happens outside the panels, between the moments of activity and inactivity.
I want to continue these experiments and see what comes out of them next (maybe even including sound) ✨

What’s in the name?
The basic answer to this question is in Ursula Le Guin’s “The Left Hand of Darkness”.
Kemmer is an experimental musician from Belgrade, Serbia (b. in 1985, grew up in Erdevik, Serbia). Composes (with the exception of Irish traditionals) her music, sings, plays instruments on it, writes lyrics for it and records/edits it all. Her first EP (still in the making) can be heard here: https://soundcloud.com/kemmmer/sets/seanchroi
Her older works (also a solo endeavor) can be heard here: https://www.reverbnation.com/jelenaperisic
Loves experimenting with text/language, music and visual art in general. As a child of the '80s, she acquired and retained a special love for New Wave/New Romanticism. Still gets goosebumps each time she hears synthesizers and reverbs.
Loves science fiction, in both prose and cinema, as well as surrealism, fantasy, occultism, esotericism, post-modernism, avant-garde, streams of consciousness, everything eclectic, experimental, subconsciousness-digging, be it visual art, writing, cinema or music.
Apart from being a place where Kemmer uploads/promotes her own music, this page is largely dedicated to uploading recordings of traditional Irish songs without instrumental accompaniment (in both Irish and English), as a means of spreading the word about this beautiful music and language and Kemmer’s love which goes into it all, but there are plans for covering traditional music from other regions as well, in the future (especially Slavic/Serbian). Covers of other music are always being considered (there’ll be even more in the future), given Kemmer’s 30-year “career” as a listener/fan of many other kinds of music (from rock/psychedelia/folk-rock of the ‘60s, prog-rock of the ‘70s, New Wave/postpunk, all their derivatives, and all kinds of alternative music of the ‘80s and ‘90s in general (rock and other genre), all the way into 2000s).
