It was a great honour to welcome the new United States Ambassador to Cyprus, His Excellency John Breslow, together with his wife, Sonia, to our Rosh Hashanah celebration, where hundreds of community members gathered to welcome the Jewish New Year.

Together with my wife, Rebbetzen Shaindel Raskin, I warmly welcomed Ambassador Breslow and his family to our community.

His visit came just days after he formally presented his credentials to President Nikos Christodoulides and officially began his service as US Ambassador to Cyprus.

Rosh Hashanah is a time of renewal, hope and new beginnings. It was especially meaningful to celebrate together and to reflect on the friendship and mutual respect that connect Cyprus, the United States and our Jewish community.

May the New Year bring peace, security, blessing and good news to Cyprus and to all our communities.

More than 3,000 years ago, at Mount Sinai, the entire Jewish people united to hear the Ten Commandments. And our sages teach that not only the adults stood there at that moment, but also the souls of all future generations — including ours ✨

That is why it is so important on this special holiday to come to the synagogue together with the whole family and hear the reading of the Ten Commandments. Because each and every one of us receives the Torah.

On Shavuot, it is customary to wish one another:
“Receive the Torah with joy, and may it enter deeply within you.”

May this holiday be for us not only a beautiful tradition, but also an opportunity to once again feel the value of the Torah, its wisdom, warmth, and our connection to generations before us.

Chief Rabbi Arie Zeev Raskin was seen yesterday at the Larnaca General Hospital blood donation centre, joined by many members of the Jewish Community of Cyprus.

Rabbi Raskin shared a powerful message: "Whoever saves a life, it is considered as if he saved an entire world. I am calling upon all community members across the island to take the time and donate. To whoever is able to give blood—please do so."

The Jewish Museum of Cyprus is delighted to announce the resounding success of its Holocaust Memorial Remembrance event, held on January 27, 2026 at the Jewish Museum of Cyprus in Larnaca.

This poignant gathering coincided with International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27) and served as a powerful affirmation of “Never Again” in an era of rising antisemitism.
The event drew an esteemed assembly of dignitaries, including local and national diplomats, ambassadors accredited to Cyprus, representatives from the Cypriot Parliament, military officials, Holocaust survivors and their descendants, community leaders, and members of the public.

Their presence underscored the international commitment to Holocaust education, remembrance, and the active fight against hatred in all its forms.
In a moving program, attendees reflected on the systematic murder of six million Jews and millions of others—by the N**i regime and its collaborators. Speakers highlighted Cyprus’s own historical connection to the Holocaust era: the British detention camps at Karaolos and Xylotymbou, where thousands of Jewish survivors were held after World War II, forging bonds of solidarity between Cypriots and Jewish people that endure today.

The program featured a stirring performance of Ani Ma’amin (“I Believe”), the anthem of unbreakable faith composed amid the horrors of the Holocaust. The melody, born in a cattle car bound for Treblinka and carried forward through acts of extraordinary courage, resonated deeply—especially in light of recent events. Just one day prior, on January 26, 2026, IDF soldiers sang Ani Ma’amin upon recovering and repatriating the body of Sgt. Ran Gvili, the last remaining Israeli hostage from the October 7, 2023 attacks. His return to Israel for burial marked the final homecoming, evoking the same defiant hope that has sustained Jewish resilience across generations.

Speeches emphasized learning from the Holocaust’s darkest hours to combat antisemitism today—whether overt hatred, subtle prejudice, conspiracy theories, historical denial, or indifference. “Remembrance is not passive,” one speaker declared. “It is a moral imperative: to educate, to protect the vulnerable, and to stand united against intolerance.”

The event culminated in the launch of the campaign, a timely initiative from the Jewish Museum of Cyprus (jmcyprus.org). Attendees each received a candle as a symbol of lives lost and enduring hope. Participants were invited to light their candle at home, photograph the flame, and share it on social media with , affirming that antisemitism will not be tolerated on their watch. This viral gesture of solidarity extends the event’s message globally, encouraging personal and collective action ahead of and beyond January 27.

“The light we kindled together—through words, music, memory, and these candles—will continue to shine against darkness.”

The Jewish Museum of Cyprus extends heartfelt thanks to all attendees, participants, and supporters for making this commemoration a meaningful step toward vigilance, compassion, and a future free from hatred.

Θέλω να εκφράσω την αγάπη και τη στήριξή μου στον εβραϊκό λαό και να πω ξεκάθαρα ότι δεν υπάρχει χώρος για αντισημιτισμό, μίσος ή ρατσισμό.

This Chanukah, I was deeply moved to stand together with the Jewish community of Cyprus in unity, resilience, and hope. Through tradition, music, and shared light, we affirmed that even a single flame can overcome great darkness.

I am grateful to all who joined us at the Voroklini Municipal Theatre, and to broadway legend Dudu Fisher for a truly inspiring performance, as we marked over 20 years of this cherished Chanukah tradition. 🕎✨

Dear Friends,

Our hearts are broken by the murderous terror attack in Sydney, an attempt to extinguish the 2,200-year-old light of Chanukah. We pray for the souls of the victims, the recovery of the survivors, and for the healing of a community shaken to its core by this act of terror.

Even in moments of fear and uncertainty, our light is not diminished. Chanukah reminds us that a single flame can overcome great darkness. By coming together, we affirm our resilience, our faith, and our commitment to life, hope, and one another. Let us gather, light the menorah, and stand united and unwavering.

We will stand strong, proud, and visible as Jews. Our answer to terror is presence and unity.
