Learning Czech is fun. Let me guide you through the fascinating jungle which is called CZECH LANGUAG

Recognising Czech and finding Czech when you need it are not the same experience.

So I don’t want you to keep collecting words forever and wait for the magical day when speaking suddenly feels easy.

Take ONE phrase you already understand.

Say it.
Change one part.
Make it about your life.
Say it again.

Tiny? Yes.
But now that Czech isn’t only sitting there waiting to be recognised. You’ve asked it to come out and do something.

That is exactly the direction we work in inside Czech Your Day too: not perfect Czech — Czech that gradually becomes YOUR Czech.

Don’t study Czech. Experience it.

You can know a lot of Czech.
You can understand the grammar.
You can have pages and pages of notes.
But Czech starts to become yours when you USE it.

When you order a coffee.
When you answer a question.
When you say one imperfect sentence instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Your Czech doesn’t belong only in your notebook.

It belongs IN YOUR LIFE.

Don’t study Czech. Experience it.

Easy, right? Until the waiter says something you didn’t practise. 😄
Because real Czech doesn’t follow a script.
You say something.
Someone reacts.
And now it’s your turn again.
That’s where Czech starts becoming yours.
Not when you can repeat the perfect sentence.
When you can stay in the conversation.
Want to try?
Start with smažený sýr. 🇨🇿

This actually happened. 😂
One of my former students wanted to surprise her husband with a massage.
So she called a massage salon to book him a masáž zad.
Well…
She accidentally asked for a masáž zadku instead. 😂
One tiny change. A completely different conversation.
And probably one Czech mistake she never made again.

Mistakes are fireflies. ✨

Have you ever said something in Czech that came out VERY differently from what you meant?

I have a long list of such situations in Spanish 😅🤣

I’ve been teaching for more than 25 years.

And one of the biggest changes in all those years didn’t happen in my teaching.

It happened in me.

For a long time, I kept listening to what fear told me I should do.

Even when I could see something else working right in front of me.

More than three years ago, I stopped using textbooks in my individual Czech lessons.

We met for just 15 minutes. Every day. Monday to Friday.

We talked. We used Czech. We connected it to real life.

And I watched what happened.

It worked.

So well that my waiting list kept growing.

I knew what I was seeing.

But knowing something and being ready to fully trust it are two very different things.

Again and again, I would find myself pulled back towards what felt safer.

What was familiar.

What teaching was “supposed” to look like.

What I thought I should be doing.

And for a long time, I didn’t even recognise that voice as fear.

It sounded too reasonable.

That may have been the hardest part.

Fear wasn’t telling me to give up.

It was telling me not to go too far.

To stay close enough to what was expected.

To trust what was established a little more than I trusted what I could see with my own eyes.

Until, little by little, something changed.

I stopped asking fear for permission.

I started trusting what I could see working.

Not blindly.

Because I had watched it work.
Again and again.
For years.

And gradually, I stopped letting fear, expectations and all those quiet shoulds make my decisions for me.

That change went far beyond the way I teach.

It changed the way I create.

The way I make decisions.

The way I trust myself.

And somewhere inside that change, Czech Your Day became what it is today.

Don’t study Czech. Experience it.

I didn’t create those words first and then build something around them.

I had to grow into them.

When Renee came to me, she had already been learning Czech for about 10 months. She had an A2 exam ahead of her — and only 6 weeks left.

We both knew 6 weeks wasn’t enough to fix everything.

And it didn’t.

But something important changed.

She started using her Czech.
Reading. Writing. Speaking.
Having real conversations.

She didn’t become perfect in 6 weeks.
She became a Czech user.
And to me, that’s what progress looks like.
Not knowing everything.
Not waiting until you’re ready.
Using what you have — and coming back tomorrow.

This is a moment from my latest conversation with Renee in the Czech Your Day podcast.

You ordered your food. You ate it. You’re feeling quite pleased with your Czech.

And then the waiter comes back with one more question:
“Dáte si ještě něco?”

Would you like anything else?

Maybe you DO want another coffee:
“Ano, ještě kávu, prosím.”

Or maybe you’re ready to pay:
“Ne, děkuju*. Zaplatím, prosím."
(* Colloquial: děkuju* = děkuji.)

A restaurant conversation doesn’t end when you order your main dish. These small moments are part of it too.

Which answer would you use today? Say it aloud before you scroll on. Give your Czech a little job to do. 😉💪

You passed your A2 exam.

For months, your Czech had a job:
a date, a deadline, a test, a next step.

And then… you pass.

No exam. No deadline. No one waiting.

It becomes very easy to say:
“I’ll do it tomorrow.”

And tomorrow gets very good at moving. 😅

Your Czech doesn’t disappear overnight. It gets quieter.

Words can take longer to arrive.
Listening can feel less automatic.
Speaking can start feeling “big” again.

So maybe the question after A2 isn’t:
“What should I study next?”

Maybe it’s:
“What do I want my Czech to be able to DO in my life?”

Hear it. Use it. Come back.

Not for the next test. For your life. 🇨🇿

You learn the words.
You learn the grammar.
You understand more and more.
And somehow, when real Czech starts flying at you…
your brain can still feel like rush hour. 😅
The answer isn’t always to learn more.
Sometimes you need to give what you already know a chance to start working together.
A little Czech.
Every day.
Listen. Notice. Respond. Use it. Come back tomorrow.
That’s the idea behind .
Not one huge study session.
Not waiting until you finally feel “ready”.
Just Czech becoming part of your day.
And slowly… the noise starts to make sense. 🇨🇿
Don’t study Czech. Experience it.

ou know what you want.

You’ve practised the sentence in your head.

And then you finally say it:

„Smažený sýr, prosím.“

Yes! You did it. 🇨🇿

But… the waiter keeps talking. 😄

„Jakou si dáte přílohu?“

Hranolky? Brambory?

And just when you think your order is finally complete, there may be one more question:

„A budete chtít kečup, nebo tatarskou omáčku?“

This is exactly the kind of moment I want you to be ready for.

Because in a real Czech restaurant, the waiter won’t always use the exact sentence you’ve learnt.

And that’s where today’s Czech Your Day podcast episode can help you.

🎧 In the episode, you’ll hear different ways a waiter may ask you about your side dish — so next time you hear a slightly different question, you don’t have to freeze and think:

Wait… that’s not the sentence I learnt! 😄

Listen. Notice the different questions. And then come back here and practise answering aloud.

The goal isn’t to memorise one perfect dialogue.

It’s to make the real situation feel a little more familiar before you experience it yourself.

And maybe next time you order smažený sýr in Czech, the waiter’s next question won’t catch you by surprise. 🙂

So… what are you having?

Hranolky, or brambory?
Kečup, or tatarka*?

Renča 🤗

*Tatarka is a common colloquial word for tatarská omáčka.
