"Behind every successful researcher is a unique story."

Today, at our first-ever Brunch for Expat Women in Czech Science, we had the privilege of hearing one of those stories.

Dr. Phuong Ngoc Pham (BIOCEV) shared her journey of relocating to the Czech Republic, building a scientific career, raising a family, and finding her place in a new country. Her honest reflections highlighted not only the professional opportunities that international mobility can bring, but also the personal growth, resilience, and determination behind every career path.

We are grateful to have created a space where international women researchers could connect, exchange experiences, and support one another over brunch and conversation.

Thank you, Phuong, for your openness and inspiration, and thank you all who joined us for this special first edition. We hope this is only the beginning of many more conversations, connections, and shared stories.

What the Programme Offers
• A five-year appointment at Charles University.
• Three years of funding provided by The Kellner Family Foundation (total support CZK 7.6 million), followed by two additional years funded by the hosting faculty (minimally CZK 1M per year).
• The opportunity to establish or expand an independent research group.

We’d love to invite you to a special brunch for female researchers who live and work in science in the Czech Republic.
Come and hear the inspiring story of Phuong Ngoc Pham, researcher at BIOCEV, and her journey through Czech science. We’ll also have plenty of time to share our own experiences — what we enjoy about working and living in the Czech Republic, as well as the things that challenge or concern us.

Our aim is to create a relaxed, open, and safe space where we can talk honestly, listen to one another, and hopefully discover that some of the things we’re navigating are more widely shared than we might think.

Autumn is gently knocking on the door: make your long autumn evenings more enjoyable by learning Czech. Join our online Czech courses for beginners and intermediates on Tuesdays.

Frequency of lessons: every Tuesday at 7:00 PM
Number of students: 10–12 students per group
Form of study: online

Qualified and experienced teachers lead the courses.

Both Czech language courses are free of charge for you. You can register for one language course only.

Today, we commemorate the anniversary of the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia on 21 August 1968.
We remember a time when the sovereignty of our country was violated and the aspirations for greater freedom were forcibly suppressed. Remembering this history is important not only to honor those who lived through it, but also to recognize the value of the freedoms we enjoy today.
