On June 10, 1942, Wehrmacht and Gestapo units in Lidice shot 173 men, deported the village's women to Ravensbrück, and sent most of its children to be murdered at the Chełmno extermination camp in Poland, then razed every building to the ground.

The N**i reprisal followed the assassination of Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich, despite investigators finding no evidence connecting Lidice to the attack. Of 503 residents, 340 did not survive. Commemoration events are being held at the site today.

The destruction of Lidice provoked an international response that outlasted the war. Communities in Mexico, Brazil, and the United States took the village's name in solidarity. In Britain, miners launched the "Lidice Shall Live" movement and raised funds for its reconstruction.

The Prague Pride festival will relocate its primary Saturday Pride Park from Letenská pláň to Štvanice island for its 18th annual edition this August.

The central parade route will also adjust, starting at the bottom of Wenceslas Square and heading through the old town before moving along the Vltava river via Hlávkův most to reach the island. Festival director Kamila Fröhlichová stated that the island provides a more intimate, green, and safe community environment for q***r participants and allies.

The festival takes place from August 3 to August 9 under the motto "Times are changing" and features more than 100 individual cultural and human rights events.
