„Ello Hudukide Illada Devara“ is a cornerstone of Kannada Sugama Sangeetha. Written by Rashtrakavi Dr. G.S. Shivarudrappa, this masterpiece carries a spiritual lesson: humanity spends a lifetime searching for God inside temples made of stone, blindly ignoring the divine love and friendship dwelling right inside our hearts.

I first sang this song back in 3rd standard for a school Bhavageethe competition. Back then, I just loved the melody and sang it with childhood enthusiasm.

Years later, understanding Dr. G.S. Shivarudrappa’s lyrics hits completely differently. It reminds us that life is just a brief journey, yet we spend so much of it searching for divinity and peace in stone walls; missing the love, kindness, and humanity right inside us.
Singing this with full awareness of its emotion (bhava of the geethe) was both deeply moving and challenging. 🥹

This rendition is inspired by B.R. Chaya ma’am’s iconic version from the album Ibbani Haasu Jaaruthide.
