Our very first Ambassador Day!

What started as a conversation turned into the most wonderful day together.

We wandered the fields, talked roses, shared stories and growing experiences, explored the world of fragrance, celebrated a birthday and of course… wandered the fields some more.

We’re so grateful for this amazing group of rose-loving people and for the time, knowledge and enthusiasm each of you brought to the day. Thank you for coming Kim (Kimberley Dean) and Lauren (Summer Moon Garden); and thank you for joining us remotely, Andie (Andie Freeman)!

Few roses stop you in your tracks at the bud stage, but Eleganza® Sweet Beauty™ does. Today, we tied up these climbing roses by sorting through the canes, planning where we wanted each one to sit, and tying them up with twine in the shape of a figure-eight.

Consider this your friendly nudge to tackle that garden job you’ve been putting off, and enjoy a little garden therapy while you’re at it. 

What garden task have you been procrastinating?

Today we’re sharing tips for cutting roses from your garden and making your bouquet last!

Start with sharp, clean pruners. Dull blades crush stems and keep them from drawing up water. Use a clean bucket of fresh water and a clean vase. Disinfect your tools and containers first. Soap and water works well, or diluted bleach or hydrogen peroxide. This keeps bacteria down and helps blooms last longer.

Cut roses early in the morning, when they’re most hydrated and it’s still cool. Pick blooms that are soft but still tight. Trim each stem about a quarter inch above a leaflet set, and get it into water right away.

When arranging, strip off any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Give each stem a fresh trim before placing it in the vase. Add greenery or other garden plants for texture, trust your eye, and enjoy the process!

To keep the bouquet fresh, change the water every couple of days and trim the stems each time. Good hygiene, timing, hydration, and bloom stage matter more than the rose variety itself.

It’s time to put the pruners away!

As fall approaches, one of the best things you can do for your roses is simply… leave them alone.

For most of Canada and the Northern States, avoid pruning and stop deadheading after Labour Day. Let your roses slow down naturally and prepare for winter.
