What Happens at Each Checkpoint? More Than You Think

A shouldn't just confirm presence, but it should what was observed. TASSTA's checkpoint activities feature allows dispatchers to define a detailed to-do list for each checkpoint, with each action marked as

Activities can include:

✅ Simple confirmation (e.g., "Perimeter secure - no unauthorized persons")

📸 Take a photo (door, window, lock, seal, or any object of interest)

🎥 Record video with customizable duration

✍️ Type a textual comment

🎤 Record a voice message

📋 Variable free-text tasks (e.g., "Walk around the building and inspect")

All activities are recorded with timestamps and linked to the specific guard who performed them.

This a simple "patrol pass" into rich, actionable evidence which is invaluable for incident investigations, compliance audits, and insurance purposes.

🔍 What does real customization mean in mission-critical communications?

It is a word used by almost every vendor, but changing a logo, selecting a few modules, or adjusting a color scheme is not genuine customization.

The article explores what customization should mean in practice: role-specific interfaces, controlled user profiles, integration with existing systems, workflow-native features, and the ability to deliver meaningful changes within a realistic budget and timeframe.

In mission-critical environments, operational fit is not simply a preference. It directly affects adoption, consistency, and how effectively people communicate under pressure.

The platform should conform to the organization. Not the other way around.

💬 What is one feature your current PTT system should have built for you, but never did?

- GPS, QR, and NFC

3 Ways to Prove a Was There

Proving that a guard physically visited a location is the of any patrol system. TASSTA supports 3 validation methods for checkpoints ☑️✅ ✔️ , each suited to different environments:

☑️📍 GPS Validation - The guard's device automatically confirms arrival when within a configured radius (default 50 meters) of the checkpoint coordinates. Accuracy can be adjusted.

✅📱 QR Code Scanning – Guards scan a QR code posted at the checkpoint location. Each code has a unique identifier, making it tamper-evident and easy to deploy.

✔️📡 NFC Tag Scanning – Guards simply tap their device against an NFC tag placed at the checkpoint. TASSTA's implementation features non-interactive scanning - the guard just brings the device near the tag, with no need to press buttons or confirm actions

This is especially valuable for screenless devices or gloved hands in cold environments.

All scan events are logged with timestamps, tag IDs, and the guard's identity, creating an irrefutable audit trail.

💬 What is the biggest challenge when introducing new software in your organization?

31/07/2026

📚 TASSTA Educates is our series where we share industry knowledge and discuss the trends and challenges shaping mission-critical communications. 💡

🇩🇪 's renewed focus on reflects a broader shift in modern security operations.

🛡️ Protecting critical infrastructure, responding to , supporting forces, and coordinating with police and emergency services all have one thing in common: seamless communication.

The challenge isn't choosing between or / . It's ensuring they work together.

🔗 mission-critical communications connect existing radio networks with broadband technologies, enabling secure voice, video, data, and location sharing across organizations when every second counts.

As defense operations become more interconnected, interoperability is no longer optional, but it's mission-critical.

❓How important is hybrid communication in the future of homeland defense?

Choosing the Right 🛣️

Not all security environments are the same. TASSTA's supports to match different operational needs:

1️⃣ Patrol: Standard point-to-point with a predefined direction. Guards must visit checkpoints in a strict order, and travel time between points can be enforced.

2️⃣ (Free) Patrol: The guard decides the order in which checkpoints are visited. The only requirement is that all checkpoints are completed within the predefined time window.

3️⃣ Patrol: The order of checkpoints is automatically shuffled each time a patrol is initiated by schedule. From the guard's perspective, it works like a fixed patrol, but the unpredictability prevents pattern recognition. This flexibility means TASSTA's solution adapts to your security philosophy, not the other way around.

From Paper Logs to Digital Precision: The of

Traditional guard tours relied on mechanical clock stations and paper logbooks.

Modern mission-critical communication solutions have changed that.

TASSTA's solution digitizes patrol operations, providing real-time monitoring, complete accountability, and fully auditable records. Every patrol is built around four core elements: a route (checkpoints), a schedule, assigned guards, and the tasks to be completed at each checkpoint.

Key terminology:

🟣Checkpoint - A predefined location a guard must visit.

🟣Route - A sequence or collection of checkpoints.

🟣Round - A single patrol ex*****on at a scheduled time by an assigned guard.

🟣Patrol - The overall plan that defines how rounds are carried out.

The result? , real-time visibility, and data-driven security operations.

What has been the biggest challenge in modernizing guard patrols in your organization: visibility, accountability, or something else?
