Stage 1 — Lead-in (5 minutes)

• Show pictures of celebrations: birthday, graduation, a trip, Eid, wedding, family party.
• Ask:

• ” (Don’t correct errors—just elicit ideas)

1-Context
Aim: Provide a natural context rich in past-tense verbs.

“Last year, I had a wonderful birthday. In the morning, I woke up early because I was excited. I decorated my house with balloons and invited all my friends. In the afternoon, my family prepared a big chocolate cake. When my friends arrived, we played games, took funny pictures, and laughed a lot. Later, we ate the cake together, and everyone sang a birthday song for me. We danced, talked, and enjoyed the night. I felt very happy and thankful. It was one of my best birthdays.”

• Aim: Teach the three –ed sounds: /t/, /d/, /ɪd/ (without using phonetic symbols )
• Explain why it is a t sound
• Rule 1: –ed sounds like “t”

• liked → like-t
• Rule 2: –ed sounds like “d”
• When the verb ends with a voiced sound
