Defend Them All

Bolivia Week 2! 🌿🐾
We spent an incredible week in Rurrenabaque, right on the edge of the Amazon, diving deeper into our student projects and community outreach.

Learning, Law & Environmental Impact
Our students connected with local tour guides who shared invaluable insights into the region’s wildlife, natural resources, and culture. Crucially, they learned firsthand about the environmental issues threatening the area. While touring the river, the devastating impact of local mining activity was impossible to miss. Locals shared that the water used to be crystal clear; now it runs a heavy, permanent brown. Seeing these impacts firsthand reinforced the importance of strong environmental laws, meaningful enforcement, and community advocacy.

Animal Welfare in Action
During one of our excursions, our team had the opportunity to step in and help a local resident whose dog, Vanilla (picture 18), was suffering from a severe infection after giving birth. We were able to rush her to the vet and schedule follow-up care.

The vet shared that they see cases like this 3 to 4 times a week, highlighting the need for greater access to veterinary care and education in rural communities, as well as policies that promote spaying, neutering, and basic health and well-being.
