🏍️ Michelin Anakee Adventure vs Timsun TS870R – A Real-World Adventure Rider's Perspective

Over the years, I've had the chance to put both of these tyres through some of the toughest riding South America can offer. Rather than declaring a winner, I want to share my experience and let you decide which one best fits your riding style.

📍 **Michelin Anakee Adventure**

I mounted a set in Santiago, Chile, and headed south to Ushuaia. From there, I continued north through Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Foz do Iguaçu, the Uyuni Salt Flats, Cusco, and finally Lima, Peru, where I replaced them.

**Total distance:** approximately **19,000 km**

Throughout that journey, the Anakee Adventure proved to be an excellent touring tyre. It performed exceptionally well on pavement, inspired confidence in wet conditions, and delivered impressive mileage. For riders who spend most of their time on asphalt and occasionally venture onto gravel roads, it's easy to understand why the Anakee has become so popular.

📍 **Timsun TS870R**

For my next big test, I fitted a set of Timsun TS870Rs in Cartagena, Colombia. From there, I rode all the way to Ushuaia and then turned around and headed north again, finally replacing them in Santiago, Chile.

**Total distance:** approximately **16,000 km**

What impressed me most about the TS870R was its versatility. While it offered excellent grip on pavement, both wet and dry, I found it noticeably more confidence-inspiring on gravel roads. On loose surfaces, the tyre felt more planted and predictable, making long stretches of ripio and backroads more enjoyable and less demanding.

📍 **The Verdict**

The Michelin Anakee Adventure delivered around **3,000 km more mileage** in my experience and remains an outstanding choice for riders focused on long-distance touring with a strong pavement bias.

The Timsun TS870R delivered slightly less mileage, but offered excellent grip and a level of gravel-road performance that many adventure riders will appreciate, especially considering its significantly lower price in Ecuador and much of Latin America.

At the end of the day, both tyres successfully carried me across some of the most spectacular roads on the planet. The better choice depends on your priorities: maximum mileage and road performance, or a tyre that feels more at home when the pavement ends.

**As for me? If I were buying a new set tomorrow, I'd probably go with the Timsun TS870R. The Anakee is a fantastic tyre, no question about it, but for the way I ride and the value it offers, the Timsun just makes more sense. The fact that it came within 3,000 km of the Michelin while giving me better confidence on gravel is pretty impressive—and considering the price difference, it's become my go-to choice.**

By the end, it felt less like guiding a client and more like sharing an adventure with a friend.
