📢 Call for Participants: Educators in the Digital Era
Today's educators wear two hats: facilitating human-centred learning while also designing meaningful digital learning experiences. Instructional design has never been more visible or more essential - regular AI use among educators currently ranges from just 14% in France to 46% in Malta. To keep pace, the European Commission is updating the European Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu) to reflect developments in AI, blended/hybrid learning, and digital well-being.
🎓 That's why the European is launching its first-ever squad and summer school: "Educators in the Digital Era: from Facilitators to Instructional Designers."
The goals:
🤝 Bring together educators, researchers, and education professionals from across Europe to share practices and innovations in digital education
🔍 Critically examine how emerging technologies are reshaping educators' competences, identities, and professional development needs
🛠️ Co-develop resources, tools, and guidelines that support educators in embracing their dual role as facilitators and instructional designers
📅 Squad: September 2026 – January 2027
📍 Summer school: Porto, 31 August – 1 September
⏰ Deadline: 12 July
✅ Good to know: To participate, you need to be a registered member of the European Digital Education Hub. Registration is free and takes less than 5 minutes: https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/EDEH_registration_EDEN

What if technostress and digital well-being aren't opposites — but mirrors of each other?
Our WINDEE Literature Review (D2.1) of 100+ peer-reviewed studies surfaces a powerful reframe: digital well-being is not the absence of stress, but a protective factor against it.
The EU Council (2022) defines it as "a feeling of physical, cognitive, social and emotional contentment" in digital environments.
That's not just feeling fine online — it's flourishing there.

A genuinely encouraging finding from WINDEE D2.2:
💚 89% of EdTech tools include at least one socio-emotional development feature
🤝 97% offer community-building or collaborative reflection activities 🧘
47% include mindfulness, mood tracking, or stress check-ins
The CASEL and PERMA frameworks are no longer niche. They're embedded in the products students use every day.
But here's the catch we keep hearing from schools: most teachers don't know these features exist.
The mindfulness module sits unused.
The reflection prompts get skipped.
The well-being dashboard is on by default and read by no one.
The technology has moved. Teacher training hasn't caught up.
So the next investment isn't another tool. It's two hours of CPD on the tools you already have.
For school leaders: when did your staff last receive training on the well-being features inside your existing platforms?
If the answer is "never" — you're not alone, but you're sitting on unused capacity.

New EU-OECD AI Literacy Framework: A Milestone for Schools and Educators
The European Commission and the OECD have launched the AI Literacy Framework for Primary and Secondary Education, providing schools, educators, and policymakers with a common reference for preparing learners to engage with artificial intelligence responsibly, ethically, and critically.
The framework is organised around four competence areas—Engage with AI, Create with AI, Manage AI, and Shape AI—and places strong emphasis on human agency, ethics, critical thinking, and responsible participation in an AI-driven society. It also includes practical classroom scenarios and guidance to support implementation across different educational contexts.
The AI Literacy Framework was developed jointly by the European Commission and the OECD, with support from Code.org and an international group of experts. It is currently available in English, French, and German and will be translated into all 24 official EU languages.
