Wir entwickeln die TARKEN App stetig weiter und arbeiten aktuell an einer neuen Funktion: einem Wochenplan für das Öffnen und Schließen von Fenstern.

Das Prinzip ist einfach: Sie legen in der App die Wochentage und die Öffnungs- bzw. Schließzeiten fest. Beispielsweise öffnet sich das Fenster an Wochentagen um 7 Uhr und schließt sich später wieder. Für das Wochenende können Sie einen anderen Zeitplan erstellen.

Zusätzlich zum Wochenplan können Sie auch einmalige Ereignisse festlegen – beispielsweise, dass sich das Fenster nach einer Stunde schließt.

So können Sie das Öffnen und Schließen Ihrer Fenster direkt über die TARKEN App planen, ohne Matter oder separate Smart-Home-Automatisierung.

Die Funktion befindet sich noch in der Entwicklung, daher möchten wir auch Ihre Meinung dazu hören.

The TARKEN WM is not manufactured as a single, solid piece. Before the finished device reaches its box, the mechanical components, electronics, battery, and housing must be assembled, and the entire unit prepared for use.

The images show various stages of this process: actuators and mechanisms prior to assembly, devices undergoing charging, the assembly process itself, and finally, the finished TARKEN WM units in their packaging.

A single device integrates a motorized window mechanism, sensors for measuring CO₂, temperature, and humidity, control electronics, and software.

A bit about the technical specifications: the TARKEN WM features a spindle torque of 8 Nm and a pulling force of 200 N (measured from the handle position). The latter corresponds to a gravitational force of approximately 20.4 kilograms. While this doesn't mean the device "lifts 20 kg," it provides a much clearer idea of ​​the magnitude of the force involved than a figure in newtons alone.

The 8 Nm figure is also significant. Torque represents not just the motor's raw power, but the combined effect of rotational force and the lever arm—precisely the force required to actuate the window mechanism via the spindle.

The device is powered by a built-in 3000 mAh battery and charges via USB-C. At the same time, the TARKEN serves as an indoor climate monitor, measuring CO₂ levels, temperature, and humidity.

The finished TARKEN WM replaces a standard window handle. The window can be operated automatically, via the TARKEN app, through a Matter-over-Thread smart home system, or directly using the buttons on the device itself. If necessary, the window can also be fully opened manually.

Consequently, a rather compact housing must accommodate the window-actuating mechanism, the control electronics, the battery, and the indoor climate sensors all at once. Finally, the entire assembly must integrate seamlessly with both the window itself and the smart home system.

We recently received an email from Lars, a TARKEN user who connected the device to Apple Home.

It wasn't just a quick "works great" message. He sent us specific feedback about his experience - from how the window state is displayed in Apple Home to button placement and how the battery status is shown in the TARKEN app.

This kind of email is useful to us because it comes from someone actually using TARKEN in their own smart home. It shows us both what works and what could be improved.

Is TARKEN suitable for your window?

Before installing TARKEN, you can check the suitability of your window quite easily. All you need is a ruler or caliper.
First, check the type of window.

TARKEN is designed for inward-opening tilt-turn windows, the ventilation position of which is achieved by turning the handle 180 degrees from the closed position.

It is recommended to use TARKEN on windows that have a tilt function that is reached by turning the handle to the last position and the handle is located on the right or left side of the window.

Then check the window handle:
- the distance between the fixing bolts must be 43 mm
- the spindle must be a rectangular bar with a side length of 7 mm
- the spindle length must be 25-40 mm

A caliper or ruler is suitable for checking the dimensions.

The window dimensions must also be checked:
- the distance between the center of the handle and the edge of the window must be a maximum of 35 mm
- the window frame must overlap the frame, leaving a free part of 15-25 mm
- there must be at least 20 mm of free space on the window frame for the fixing anchor
- the recommended window width is up to 1 m
- the recommended height is up to 1.5 m

In addition, the window handle must be able to turn without significant resistance.

TARKEN is suitable for most PVC and wooden windows if the dimensions of the window handle and the window meet the above requirements. It is especially important to check the 43 mm fixing bolt spacing, 7 mm square spindle, 25-40 mm spindle length and the free space of the window frame for the fixing anchor.

If the dimensions are suitable, installation is the next step. TARKEN is installed in place of the existing window handle and there is no need to change the existing window structures.

A Home Assistant user recently shared some detailed feedback after installing TARKEN.

He is using it on a child’s bedroom window. The idea was to let fresh air in automatically during the night and close the window again in the morning, when the noise outside starts to increase.

One thing he specifically mentioned was how quiet the window movement is. For a bedroom, that makes a noticeable difference.

He is using TARKEN with Home Assistant over Matter and Thread and says it has been working very well so far.

His feedback also included some very specific feature requests. One of them was the ability to control the Micro Tilt position through Matter. For his use case, a small opening would often be enough at night and would make the ventilation automation more flexible.

This is exactly the kind of feedback that helps us understand how people are actually using TARKEN and what they would like to see next.

And there was one other nice detail in his message: he is already considering buying a second TARKEN for his kitchen.

🔄 TARKEN continues to evolve even after the device is in use.

We have updated both the TARKEN app and the device software. One of the most important updates is now the ability to update the device firmware directly through the app, over the air.

This means that when a new software version is available, there is no need to send the device anywhere. The update can be done directly from the app.

With the latest update, we also improved the device's movement and optimized battery usage. At the same time, the TARKEN app got a fresher and clearer look.

And the development continues. We will continue to improve the TARKEN software to make the device and its use even better.

🤔 Why automate a window at all?
At first glance, it may seem that a smart window handle is just another smart home gadget.
But the question is not about the window.
The question is that you no longer have to constantly think about fresh air yourself.

TARKEN allows you to create automations that work in the background and take care of the indoor climate exactly when you need it.
