بعد ما درس في مدرسة الجيزويت للسينما بالقاهرة، بدأ محمود يوسف ياخد فرص في تصوير الأفلام التسجيلية، وهناك اكتشف إنه بيحب الـ Documentary Cinematography بشكل خاص، بسبب حبه للضوء الطبيعي والتعامل معاه والتحكم فيه. ومع الوقت، التجربة في الأفلام التسجيلية ساعدته يفهم إزاي يخلق ويتحكم في الإضاءة في الأفلام الروائية، حتى في الحالات اللي مابيكونش فيها الاعتماد على الضوء الطبيعي.

After studying at the Jesuit Cairo Cinema School, Mohmoud Youssef got opportunities to shoot documentaries, where he discovered his passion for documentary cinematography — especially working with and controlling natural light. That experience later helped him understand how to create and control light in fiction filmmaking, even when natural light isn’t an option.
