Competition 2016 - Capture AUC Spirit

Brief:

"The organizational device that he adopted to implement this concept was to develop a planning unit that would allow the University to be divided into built and unbuilt areas as well as carefully planned and spontaneous functions." James Steele about design of AUC Master plan. The concept discussed above is the notion of liberal arts institution and the values a community of such institution stands for and reflects. The aim of the competition is to successfully capture and frame the campus's unique sense of place as a liberal arts institution. The photographs should focus on capturing the unique essence of the AUC community. This may be done by considering daily casual routines, unplanned and planned activities and special ceremonial events. Photographers should consider how the Architectural Design of the campus has played a role in influencing and supporting collective behavioral patterns, transmission of knowledge and information between various community members. AUC, a unique community with common values, diverse interests and social identity is in daily contact and interaction with the processional spatial planning (masterplan) and architecture of Abdelhalim Ibrahim. Those interactions generate a language of social, physical, literal, manifestation that is unique to its community. "Liberal arts in its essence is reaching the truth through multiple sources." Abdelhalim Ibrahim
The goal of the campus design by Abdelhalim Ibrahim was to have different Architects designing different schools for different micro communities yet finding a harmonious common language. This goal emerges from Abdelhalim Ibrahim's personal commitment to designing for community needs whether institutional, traditional or unique communities and rightfully representing those communities through architectural manifestations of their tradition, needs and aspirations.
