📝Supersolidity meets magnetism in an optical lattice
For the first time, a numerical simulation shows a phase of matter that combines lattice supersolidity and magnetism.
In a recent Physical Review Letters publication, however, an international team of researchers, including Prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein, have theoretically studied and simulated phases of matter that, for the first time, combine supersolidity and magnetism. The researchers have also proposed a concrete experimental set-up based on magnetic atoms (in particular, dysprosium) for the creation and detection of such states.

📝 From a sphere to a tetrahedron: a novel quantum dot growth strategy for SWIR detection
ICFO researchers, Dr. Taewan Kim, Dr. Jae Taek Oh, Hao Wu, Marta Martos Valverde, and Dr. Debranjan Mandal, led by ICREA Prof. Gerasimos Konstantatos, have proposed a novel method to synthesize indium arsenide colloidal quantum dots for SWIR detection that overcomes previous limitations.
Presented in Advanced Materials, this safe and economic alternative to conventional synthesis methods paves the way for high-performance SWIR optoelectronics.
