RARDO - Architects

A site with a pronounced slope presents both a challenge and an opportunity. On this small plot in Can Girona, Sitges, rather than resisting the natural terrain, the house is carefully shaped around it, forming living terraces that follow the landscape, opening towards the sea and golf-course views, and establishing a seamless relationship between architecture and its terraced gardens.

At the lower level, the excavated rock is left exposed, revealing the site’s geology and grounding the house in the terrain from which it emerges.

The garden is the first room of the house.

Before entering, the architecture is encountered through planting, shade and a sequence of quiet thresholds.

Concrete walls define the garden without closing it off. Paths and steps guide the movement through the site, while trees and dense greenery soften the geometry of the house and bring nature close to every façade.

The materials are deliberately restrained: textured concrete, warm timber, stone and foliage. Together, they create a calm Mediterranean setting in which the boundaries between house and garden become increasingly indistinct.

A home shaped not only by its walls, but by everything that grows around them.

Documenting architecture is never immediate. Some projects need time to truly reveal themselves.
We returned one year after planting the garden to see how it has grown, matured, and gradually blended with the architecture. The result is a dialogue between built form and nature that only time can shape.
The full photo series will be shared after the summer. For now, we pause, recharge, and look ahead with renewed energy and new ideas for the studio.

Just completed in Sitges, this family home is designed to blur the boundaries between inside and out. Full-opening window systems allow the living spaces to extend seamlessly toward the terrace, while the overhanging roof creates a generous shaded area that frames the views of the forest and the Mediterranean Sea. Neutral materials bring calm and continuity throughout, and side lattice screens add privacy, texture, and a subtle play of light and shadow.
