“In front of a good painting, the eye becomes a universal organ: you can smell the trees in bloom and hear the waves break,” says Veronika Voļska.
‘Terra Extranjera’ brings together paintings by Veronika Voļska Veronika Voļska and Reinis Liepa Reinis Liepa
Both paint the figure and nature, each in their own way.
Veronika’s paintings are an eclectic collection of impressions gathered while travelling through mountain wilderness. Some are true to life, others completely imagined. The colours may be real and the characters not. Or vice versa.
Reinis spent the whole summer in the north dreaming of the south and painting it: its sunlight, the scent of lush greenery, blossom and sea salt. Four large paintings and ten small ones, at times unapologetically sweet, at times with a hint of unpredictability.
After all, who can tell what is and isn’t real in a foreign land?
Opening: Thursday 08.10, 19:00
On view until 05.11

In this short conversation, Łucja Bańkowska reflects on what feels significant in her work right now, what inspired this exhibition, and what has been inspiring her recently here in Valencia.

The works shown at Abyss Artspace were created in Wrocław and brought to Valencia as part of her Culture of Mobility residency - offering a glimpse into the searches, decisions and intuitions that shape her practice, now shared with a new context and audience.

One evening, three techniques, and space to experiment.

Last Wednesday, we explored paper lithography, etching and chine collé with Łucja Bańkowska Łucja Bańkowska — slowing down, trying different possibilities and turning ideas into something tangible. Łucja shared her working process, what she looks for in an image, the small decisions behind her prints, and how these techniques can be approached with accessible materials.

Some arrived with a clear idea, others discovered it along the way. Each print became a record of experiments, discoveries and choices — a glimpse into the kind of searching that drives Łucja’s practice.

Everyone left with their own work to take home.

More workshops, exhibitions and encounters are coming to Abyss Artspace. We’ll see you at the next one.

Recap from the opening of Łucja’s exhibition 10 things I do before 10 am.
The works sparked a lot of interest, but so did the conversations around them. It was a pleasure to hear Łucja talk about her practice, the ideas behind the exhibition and the stories that sit alongside the images. We also got to see her demonstrate Chine-collé live, giving us a glimpse into the process behind the work.
Thank you to everyone who came, listened, asked questions and stayed for the conversations.
And a little reminder: on Wednesday, September 16th, you can join Łucja for an evening of printmaking. Three techniques, one layered print — paper lithography, etching and Chine-collé. No experience needed, all materials included.
