Our last dinner on Haida Gwaii, this trip.

Back BLACKTAIL Restaurant & BAKE+BREW Cafe where we sat on the deck and enjoyed a beet and arugula salad, the roast chicken special, and that wonderful ricotta/honey/sourdough appetizer.

It was a beautiful sunny evening, a delicious meal, with great live music to follow in Spirit Square.

Haida Gwaii is a special place. I’m grateful we could visit again.

I’m glad we had one last chance to visit The Jackal.

It was BLACKTAIL Restaurant & BAKE+BREW Cafe Bake + Brew for the coffee and muffin stop this morning.

Excellent latte and americano misto, and the blackberry muffin disappeared instantly.

Pro Tip: the stage at Spirit Square is
about a one-minute walk away and an ideal spot-with-a-view to sip your coffee (and it’s covered in case of rain…which is a reasonable bet!).

This morning, Island Crumb Co. was our snack stop.

Great coffee, friendly vibe, and the peach cobbler muffin was most certainly toddler- (and me-) approved.

At any time I’ve thought of Haida Gwaii, grapes have never come to mind. 

Happily, our neighbour in Skidegate doesn’t suffer from that limited thinking and just dropped off these beauties from his garden!

We ventured north toward Masset today, walking the Golden Spruce Trail and then stopping for delicious snacks Haida Gwaii Beach Stop

Cinnamon buns and these delicious Boston Cream chocolatey, icing-topped delights… plus lovely coffee and a welcoming vibe.

Very much worth a stop if you’re in the area.

This was a fun Friday dinner.

Since arriving on Haida Gwaii, I’ve tried to do a bit of batch prep for meals.

One result of that is a vat of chili featuring Two Rivers Specialty Meats meats that I picked up the wonderful Isabel Creek Store in Daajing Giids. A few navy beans went in too.

Having all that chili around had me craving chili dogs. Isabel Creek came through with some turkey smokies and while looking for hot dog buns…

… I spotted these sourdough buns by Raincoast Breads. Last year, we attended a foraging day and dinner with Chef Kevin of Raincoast, and it was a highlight of our trip.

I knew these buns would be good, but they were REALLY good.

Dinner was as simple - and as good - as these fantastic sourdough buns holding mustard, chopped raw onions, smokies and chili.

Not traditional dog shape, but no less delicious for that.
