The 28th Annual Congress of the European Society for Clinical Virology brought together a record 620 participants for four days of scientific presentations, discussions and networking.

At Labquality’s exhibition booth, Sales Director Juha Wahlstedt was joined by Ana Paula Faria, Coordinator of Portugal’s National External Quality Assessment Programme (PNAEQ), to meet congress participants and discuss quality in clinical virology.

Our team also contributed to the scientific programme. Business Development Director Heidi Berghäll, EQA Production Manager Elena Tuovinen and EQA Scheme Expert Riikka Österback presented two posters:

Patient safety starts with reliable laboratory information. 🤝 17 September marks World Patient Safety Day.

Laboratory results guide diagnoses, treatments and patient monitoring, which means that quality throughout the testing pathway has a direct connection to safe patient care.

At Labquality Days 2027, the Patient Safety session explores topics including:

🔹 reducing unwarranted variation in the testing pathway
🔹 harmonisation of units, decision limits and reference intervals
🔹 evaluating individual competence through EQA
🔹 image-based EQA and image-analysis algorithms
🔹 patient-centric EQA and clinical impact
🔹 minimum retest intervals and appropriate test utilisation

The session brings together Martin Myers, Martina Zaninotto, Thomas Streichert, Marith van Schrojenstein Lantman, Emilia Svala, Jonna Pelanti, Rachel Marrington and Anna Linko-Parvinen.

The session concludes with a panel discussion on how key stakeholders can work together to enhance patient safety.
