• Experience in electoral assistance, including logistics, operations and/or electoral system reform.
• Strong communication, coordination, research, reporting and drafting skills.
• Experience in fragile or conflict-affected settings and institutional capacity building is an advantage.

Following engagements in Fiji, the UNV Pacific Regional Manager is continuing the regional mission in Samoa, meeting with UNDP in Samoa, Cook Islands, Tokelau & Niue, UNRCO Samoa (UN in Samoa) and FAO Samoa (FAO Pacific) to strengthen partnerships and explore opportunities to better mobilize volunteerism and UN Volunteers in support of development priorities.

The mission also brought together Samoa-based UN Volunteers for a town hall, providing an important space for volunteers to share their experiences, achievements, challenges and aspirations directly with the Regional Manager.

Meet Tuna Bozalan, bringing border security expertise to the Pacific. 🌊

An International UN Volunteer serving as a Passenger and Cargo Control Programme (PCCP) Officer with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) in Suva, Fiji, Tuna brings nearly a decade of UN experience to the Pacific.

Originally from Türkiye, he works on the frontlines of border security, supporting Pacific nations as they navigate the complex and evolving challenges of transnational organised crime.

During the official visit to Fiji by UNV Asia & the Pacific Regional Manager Christian Hainzl, Tuna shared his experience at a regional UNV Pacific Town Hall, a space for volunteers to talanoa directly with leadership about the realities, challenges and impact of their assignments.

For Tuna, one of the region’s biggest challenges is also one of its defining features: the vastness of the Pacific and its immense maritime borders.

Through a joint programme involving UNODC, the World Customs Organization (WCO) and INTERPOL, Tuna provides technical support, training and resources to customs agencies across the region, strengthening their capacity to detect and respond to transnational organised crime.

From Suva to the wider Pacific, his work demonstrates how specialised expertise can be mobilised through volunteerism to address some of the region’s most complex challenges.🌏

The recent visit by our Asia-Pacific Regional Manager to Fiji was more than an opportunity to connect, it was a chance to look ahead and strategize for the future of volunteerism in the Pacific.

As our UNV Multi-Country Coordinator for the Pacific, Alrina Ali, shares, we are focused on strengthening partnerships, deepening our support for national capacity, and strategically mobilizing the skills needed across the 14 Pacific island countries we serve.

Under her coordination, we are excited to expand our volunteer cohort, enhance local collaborations, and ensure that volunteerism remains a responsive, impactful driving force for the .

Yesterday in Fiji, UN Volunteers Asia and the Pacific Regional Manager, Christian Hainzl, wrapped up a series of impactful visits with key partner agencies, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR - UN Human Rights Pacific), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Health Organization (WHO) and UN Women Pacific

These meetings weren't just about handshakes; they were crucial strategy sessions to align on shared goals, unlock new opportunities for UN Volunteers, and spotlight the incredible work our volunteers are doing on the frontlines of humanitarian response, sustainable agriculture, and public health.

With the Fiji chapter complete, Christian's Pacific mission doesn't stop here, he is officially on his way to Samoa to keep the momentum going!
