Texas, I’m coming for you! 🇺🇸🤠🍷
When you have thirsty friends ❤️ I always suggest an Imperial — 6 litres, the equivalent of 8 regular bottles. In this case, Château L’Église-Clinet, Pomerol 1991 👌🏻
When your friends are very thirsty, I suggest stepping up to a Salmanazar — 9 litres, the equivalent of 12 bottles. In this case, Château Ferrière, Margaux Grand Cru Classé 2013.👌🏻
But then, of course, you have my kind of friends. We are seriously thirsty! 😂🍷 And that calls for a Balthazar — 12 litres, the equivalent of 16 bottles. In this case, Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2012. 👌🏻
8 bottles. 12 bottles. 16 bottles.
This is my kind of wine math. 🍷🍷🍷 Let me know if you agree! Cheers to thirsty friends and BIG bottles!
Great grape. Great age. Great glass.
Welcome to fall and happy Nebbiolo Sunday Wine Funday! 🍷🍂 Fall has arrived, and that makes me happy! 😃 It means the season for richer meals, earthy flavors, mushrooms, truffles, game and slow-cooked dishes has begun and so many of them are wonderful partners for one of Italy’s greatest grapes: Nebbiolo. Nebbiolo is a fascinating fruit 🍇
You find it in many different expressions, most famously Barolo and Barbaresco, but also Langhe Nebbiolo, Gattinara, Ghemme and, under the local name Chiavennasca, in the wines of Valtellina.
Today we are traveling back in time with a 1968 Marchesi di Barolo “Grande Annata” Barolo Gia Opera Pia Barolo. Almost six decades old, and of course made from Nebbiolo. This exact 1968 bottling is documented as a Barolo Grande Annata from Marchesi di Barolo.
With mature Nebbiolo, forget about expecting young, juicy fruit. This is where age becomes fascinating: dried cherries, roses, orange peel, to***co, leather, forest floor, mushrooms, truffle, herbs and that unmistakable combination of tar and roses. The acidity can remain beautifully alive while decades soften the once-powerful tannins.
RIEDEL Performance Pinot Noir/Nebbiolo glass ❤️A perfect match. The large bowl gives this incredibly aromatic variety room to open, while the shape brings together its perfume, acidity and tannin. the Performance optic increases the inner surface area to encourage aromatic development. Great grape. Great age. Great glass. 🍷🍂💯
At the beautiful lake in Kitzbühel, racing our boats 🚤 whilst enjoying a glass of Vérité Le Désir 2018 from Sonoma County, California. 🍷🚤☀️ A spectacular Bordeaux-inspired wine, led by Cabernet Franc, with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The 2018 is rich and beautifully structured, showing blackberry, cassis, black cherry, violets, graphite, to***co and spice, with wonderful freshness and an incredibly long finish. A serious wine with decades of life ahead of it. And not to worry, you know me: don’t drink and drive! 😂 Today we are only racing our RC speedboats, matching our skills, enjoying the lake and having a great time together. Gentlemen, start your engines! 🏁🚤💨🍷
Preparing for my trip to Amsterdam and Frankfurt, where I’ll have the pleasure of meeting and hosting close to 500 wine loving guests ❤️
I’m taking a quiet moment at home today to share a glass of wine with my family. In my glass: .schlossgobelsburg Grüner Veltliner Ried Grub 1ÖTW, Kamptal DAC 2019. A beautiful single-vineyard Grüner Veltliner from one of Austria’s great estates. The 2019 vintage combines maturity with freshness, depth, spice and wonderful minerality 👌🏻☘️And it makes me reflect on something I strongly believe:
wine should never be complicated 🫣 but it deserves appreciation. Take a moment. Look at the color. Smell the aromas. Think about the grape, the vineyard, the vintage and the people who made it. Choose the right glass, serve it at the right temperature, pair it with good food and, most importantly, share it with people you care about ❤️❤️❤️
You don’t need to be a wine expert to appreciate wine. You simply need to give it your attention. Today, before another busy journey begins, that is exactly what I’m doing. Family, a beautiful Austrian wine and a little time to appreciate it. Cheers! 🍷
1949 simply too good not to talk about it one more time. 🍷I had to share this video because opening this Château d’Yquem 1949 was definitely one of the highlights of my wine life ❤️👌🏻🥳
legendary vintage, now 77 years old, showing incredible complexity and elegance. Deep amber in color, with beautiful notes of dried apricot, candied orange, honey, saffron, caramel, roasted nuts and exotic spice. Rich and concentrated, yet still with remarkable freshness and acidity. The finish seemed to go on forever 🤯
But what made this bottle truly unforgettable was not the rating, the rarity or even the age 😳😉💪🏼
My father was born in 1949, and I opened this wine while celebrating my 49th birthday. ❤️ 1949 for 49.
Sometimes you open the right bottle at exactly the right moment, for exactly the right reason ☘️👍🏻
This is why I love wine. Wine is not only about what is in the glass. It connects generations, brings people together and creates unforgettable moments. A bottle I will remember for the rest of my life. Cheers to my father, to family, and to 49 years! 🥂
#1949
Celebrating my birthday with family and friends Tirol and what better day for it than Sunday Wine Funday! 🍷🎂
A special occasion deserves a very special lineup from the cellar:
🍾 Dom Pérignon Vintage 2018 the exciting new release. 🍾
🍷 Lodovico 2011, Tenuta di Biserno an extraordinary expression from Tuscany.
🍷 Château Palmer 1977 a beautiful mature Margaux and, very appropriately, my own birth vintage.
🇦🇹 Weingut Knoll Ried Schütt Dürnsteiner Riesling Smaragd 1998,
🇪🇸 Verum Las Tinadas Airén de Pie Franco — old-vine, ungrafted Airén from La Mancha.
🍯 Château d’Yquem 1949 perhaps the most emotional bottle of the day. 1949 is my father’s birth vintage, making this legendary Yquem the perfect wine to celebrate family and generations. Today I turn 49, so there is something wonderfully fitting about celebrating my 49th with a bottle from 1949. We are enjoying these great wines together on the farm, high up in the mountains, and obviously every wine is properly served in its RIEDEL grape-varietal-specific glass, allowing each wine to show its true character.
Great wines, high altitude, family and friends around the table what more could I wish for? Feeling very grateful today. ❤️
Wow… look at this! 🍷 PÉTRUS 1990 straight from my father’s wine cellar ❤️
This bottle has been resting in his cellar since the late 1990s, and now it has become my birthday gift 🎁 What makes it even more special is that I get to open it and share it with the people I love.
We are starting the birthday celebrations a little early… because this year my actual birthday falls on Sunday Wine Funday! 🎂🍷 How lucky 🍀 am I?
1990 is a benchmark vintage for Pétrus and Pomerol. A hot, dry growing season produced Merlot of exceptional quality, and Pétrus created a wine of extraordinary richness, concentration and silky texture. awarded it 100 points 💯 describing its sweetness, velvety tannins, purity and enormous intensity. And please a wine like this deserves the proper Riedel wine glass 🍷
Pétrus is one of the ultimate expressions of Merlot, so I am serving it in the RIEDEL Performance glass which is also being used at the Winery. The shape allows this magnificent wine to open, showing its layers of ripe plum and dark fruit, followed by truffle, spice, earth and all those beautiful tertiary aromas that only decades in the bottle can create.
A gift 🎁 from my father’s cellar.
A legendary vintage.
Shared with my loved ones.
That is my definition of a perfect birthday wine. ❤️🍷
Señor Bellini, Part Two! 🍑🥂 How do you make a Virgin Bellini? Andrea Di Mauro, the legendary “Señor Bellini” of Cala di Volpe, shows us how simple it is. Keep the beautiful fresh white peach purée and simply replace the sparkling wine with sparkling 💦 water
Same fresh peach flavor, same Italian 🇮🇹 summer feeling just zero alcohol. Perfect for everyone who wants to enjoy the Bellini experience without the alcohol.
Grazie Andrea for another masterclass! Salute from Sardegna! 🇮🇹🍑
What a privilege ❤️ invited to a private Bellini Masterclass at the legendary Cala di Volpe with Andrea Di Mauro himself, better known as “Signor Bellini.” 🍑🥂 Learning the secrets behind one of Italy’s most iconic cocktails: ripe white peaches, prepared fresh, combined with sparkling wine 🍷 simplicity where the quality of every ingredient makes the difference. And the history is just as beautiful.
The original Bellini was created in 1948 by Giuseppe Cipriani at Harry’s Bar in Venice, blending white-peach purée with Prosecco. Its delicate pink color reminded Cipriani of the work of Renaissance painter Giovanni Bellini, which inspired the name. From Venice to Costa Smeralda, almost 80 years of Italian aperitivo culture 👏🏼 and today I had the pleasure of learning how Cala di Volpe creates its own legendary interpretation. Grazie Andrea for the masterclass! Salute from Sardegna! 🇮🇹
