Day 9 of taking unfinished paintings that aren’t working yet.

I often get asked the question of how long it takes me to finish a piece and my answer is always the same..
Everyone is completely different. Some take me years to finish and some are painted so quickly. That I have to stop myself from over painting.

I wish that happened more frequently but usually because each one is unique I labor over it probably longer than I should.

What is actually happening is that because I have labored over other ones I’ve developed the skills that make other paintings seem easy. It’s usually the ones that went really fast. Are the ones that I love the most but it’s taking me years of practice to get there

So maybe the better answer is this one took me eight hours and 50 years of practice.

Most people have never asked an artist about a smaller piece. Or a study. Or a work on paper. Or a payment plan.

I offer all four. Most of us do. We just don’t advertise it.

My work runs from $250 for a small study on paper to $20,000 for a large commission. There is almost certainly something in that range that works for you, and asking costs you nothing.

1. I procastinate about getting into my art studio even though I want to go there (how weird is that?)

2. I need to overcome the feeling that painting is a reward after all the other work is done. (It never ends!)

3. I’ve written and illustrated 2 children’s books for my grandchildren

4. I’ve been working on the third children’s book in the series for 6 years now and it’s still not finished

5. I’m a messy painter and my art studio almost always looks like a tornado hit it

6. I constantly lose track of time and even forget to eat when I’m on a roll painting

(What 2 days have gone by?)
