Alhamdullilah. That’s a wrap on mine and hubby’s debut feature film

Calling this a journey doesn’t quite cover it. Thank you to every single person, cast and crew who believed in us, understood the assignment, and let us tell this story with the honesty and humour it deserved. To my family who have always been there and who I couldn’t have created this without (literally) and a massive thank you to those already showing us incredible love.

To the people who’ve decided without seeing a single frame, without knowing what this story is actually about that my husband and I no longer deserve their support, and have given us hate and threats instead. Your support didn’t get my family through Mogadishu. It didn’t raise me in London. It didn’t care for my father, when he was sick. It didn’t pay my bills. It didn’t put me through law school. My battles in and out the ring wasn’t won or lost because of your support, or lack thereof. So bun your support. We only fear Allah.

This film was made with love, for the community, with the community. So thank you to all those who continue to support me within it…no matter what!

Whilst in Somalia last year I was a target of the terrorist organisation Al- Shabab. When you seem represent change or progression you’re always going to be a target but never let fear stop you from taking that step.

Best believe when I get hit, I get up. If you’re going to shoot. Make it count. Somalia Hanoolaato.

Bits and bobs.

Officially selected for 13 film festivals worldwide, including our first BAFTA-qualifying festival for **How To Hide It** our debut short film.

People who know us, know we don’t do things halfway. Eighteen months ago after executive producing In The Shadows, a feature biopic shot across London and Kenya, which will be out in cinemas later this year, my husband and creative partner Rich looked at me and said “Let’s drop everything and write our own feature film.” I genuinely thought he was crazy.

Turns out, a healthy dose of delusion and a complete disregard for permission is the best strategy. We wrote and finished our short whilst simultaneously finishing writing Not Like Us our first feature comedy script. Let’s hope we can get that one to the big screen next.
