At OFFSCREEN, Laurent Millet presents photographs of ephemeral objects, architectures and situations he builds and then documents, investigating the relationship between human gesture, the constructed object and the act of seeing.

My History with Stones” (1999) establishes Millet’s early engagement with handmade structures and the tension between earthy materiality and the oneiric, laying the foundations of a poetic imaginary rooted in manual construction.

Working across photography, sculpture, drawing and site-specific installation, Millet constructs each situation before turning the camera on it, presented here in a dimensional structure reminiscent of the maquettes he builds to photograph.

At OFFSCREEN, he also presents “Somnium” (2015) and “The Clouds” (2025).

At OFFSCREEN, Barbara Bloom presents « Susan Sontag vs. SUSAN SONTAG » (2021), « Deconstructed (Blow-Up) » (2021) and « Homage to Jean-Luc Godard (Corrected) » (1986-2021), part of her ongoing Stand-Ins series: an unfurled roll of seamless backdrop paper holding a piece of furniture, objects and framed images, hovering somewhere between sculpture and mise en scène, like forensic clues left in a photographer’s studio.

But in these works, there is no photographer, and no photographs are taken. We see just the set up — one that implies an event that has already happened or will happen soon.

The work stems more from the traditions of literature than from painting or sculpture. Bloom has noted: “I am probably a novelist, but somehow ended up standing in the wrong line, and inadvertently signed up to be an artist.”

Bloom’s presence at OFFSCREEN comes ahead of an upcoming exhibition at Palazzo Cini in Venice (2027).

📣 This year, celebrates (1948-1985) as the Guest of Honor.

With a practice that was often ephemeral, combining sculpture, body art, land art, photography, and film — and infused with ritual, the sacred, and a prescient ecological awareness — Mendieta addressed the major themes of the conceptual and avant-garde movements of the 1970s and the 1980s with a distinct voice. Creating more than 100 films and videos in her career, she is an iconic, canonical, and unclassifiable figure of the late 20th century.

In the chapel’s central rotunda, the installation features six films. The presentation complements the retrospective currently on view at the Modern in London.

At OFFSCREEN, Andrea Geyer presents « Feeding the Ghosts » (2019).

Slide projectors sit on stacks of books, surrounding two writing tables holding a lamp, a teapot, and a cup, casting blank frames of light outward as a sixty-minute looped voice-over unfolds. Inspired by Chantal Akerman’s « A Family in Brussels, » a performance Geyer witnessed in New York in 2001, the work shifts between the voices of the original narrative, Akerman, and Geyer herself, weaving their histories together across time.

For OFFSCREEN, Geyer has reconceived the work as a site-specific installation within the archive architecture of the Chapelle Saint-Louis de la Salpêtrière. « You cannot uninvite the ghosts. »

À OFFSCREEN, Andrea Geyer présente « Feeding the Ghosts » (2019).

At OFFSCREEN, Thomas Paquet presents « Midi Solaire » (2018–2021) and « Empreinte(s) » (2020), making light, space and time, the fundamental ingredients of photography, the subjects of his works.

In these two major installations, Paquet records the movement of the sun across the sky, making visible the passage of time. « Midi Solaire » is composed of twelve unique cyanotype photograms, produced using a gnomon, one of the earliest astronomical instruments, to expose photosensitive paper to the midday sun once a month over the course of a year. « Empreinte(s) », a previously unexhibited series of 365 prints, extends this investigation over an entire year, each work recording the sun’s passage through a complete day, creating a daily archive of light in motion.

Beneath the apparent abstraction of these works lies a sustained observation of the world through the shifting of light and the rhythm of the seasons.

At OFFSCREEN, Steina Vasulka (vasulka_foundation) presents « Geomania » (1986).

The trailblazing video artist who has been producing work since the 1960s founded The Kitchen in 1971 with her husband Woody Vasulka.

Presented here in its largest version of 21 monitors, the installation brings together landscape imagery and recordings of natural phenomena from Iceland and New Mexico, building into what has come to be known as the « Vasulka Effect. »

Considered one of Vasulka’s Land Art works, the piece’s pacing induces a contemplative mood while its layered editing gives the landscape a sculptural presence.

Materials of the earth are transformed through the video signal, a pioneering element of her practice.

Steven Pippin, known for radically exploring image reproduction, questioning the possibilities and limits of photography, is presented at OFFSCREEN.

« New Consternation » (1999/2007) is an orrery in which the Earth is replaced by a television set and the Moon by a man watching it. Caught in a perpetual orbit around the image, he becomes a symbol of our attention captured by screens, while life continues to unfold around us.

Pippin will also present « End of Photography » (2011), « Con » (2011) and « De Vere Sequence » (2010).

🤝 Presented by Enrico Astuni Bologna

At OFFSCREEN, APALAZZOGALLERY presents Ibrahim Mahama, one of the most influential voices in contemporary art and the first African artist to top ArtReview’s Power 100 (2025).

In “Voli-ni” (2022), a large-scale collage (295 × 777 cm) whose title means “inside the hole” in Dagbani, repeated images of Brutalist architecture and bats build into a lyrical topographical motif, echoing the rhythmic rows of bats hanging from silo ceilings.

Engaging with the legacy of colonial domination and the processes of erasure, defacement and appropriation that accompany it, collage becomes a means of articulating the many tensions and complexities embedded within Ghana’s multifaceted past.

His presentation at OFFSCREEN opens alongside “Le Temps des récoltes”, his first major exhibition in France, at Fondation Cartier (from 22 October).
