The exhibition “Design en main. Du langage à l’objet” [Design in Hand. From Language to Object] is built around six popular expressions related to the hand. Placed within the field of design, these expressions reveal an intimate relationship between language and form. Words and objects converse, whether they pertain to everyday use or iconic creations.
Enhanced by essays from international authors, punctuated by comments from designers, explanatory notes, and rich iconography, this book, along with the materials it contains, can be held in hand before being shared.

L’exposition « Design en main – Du langage à l’objet » se construit à partir de six locutions populaires liées à la main. Placées dans le champ du design, ces expressions révèlent une relation intime entre langage et formes. Mots et objets se répondent, qu’ils relèvent de l’usage quotidien ou de créations emblématiques.
Augmenté par des essais d’autrices et auteurs internationaux, séquencé par des propos de designers, des notices et une riche iconographie, cet ouvrage, ainsi que les matériaux qui le constituent, pourra être tenu en main, avant de passer de main en main.
À travers des expositions annuelles confiées à des commissaires invités, la Galerie nationale du design, inaugurée à la Cité du design à Saint-Étienne en juin 2026, valorise et questionne l’histoire d’une discipline en fédérant les collections publiques de design en France.

Almighty God Art Works
Artiste et prédicateur ghanéen plus connu sous le nom d’Almighty God, Kwame Akoto développe une pratique picturale en parallèle de son activité de peintre d’enseignes depuis le début des années 1970. Cette œuvre prolifique mêle messages spirituels, autoportraits, portraits de célébrités et scènes quotidiennes de Kumasi, la capitale de la région Ashanti où il est établi. Avec une grande maîtrise de la typographie et un sens précis de la formule et de l’image, l’artiste y remercie « Dieu tout-puissant » des grâces qu’il accorde, notamment l’humanité, la nature ou la nourriture, et prêche contre les tentations démoniaques comme la sorcellerie, le paganisme ou encore la cigarette, ennemi public numéro un.

Reflections by Alexandra Midal and Thierry Chancogne on books and printed surfaces, based on the hundred or so publications produced by MAC VAL over two decades of commitment to contemporary graphic design.
 
To mark the twentieth anniversary of MAC VAL, the museum has invited the duo Syndicat to explore the 104 publications it has produced over the past two decades.
The books are presented on a display platform that brings together all of the published texts—a total of 16,465,721 typographic characters.
Alongside a selection of works from the museum’s collection, enlarged pages from catalogs are exhibited so that the formats of the reproductions and the originals correspond.
The exhibition is accompanied by a reflection on the book as an object, with Alexandra Midal and Thierry Chancogne offering historical, semantic, technical, and sociological perspectives in this publication.

Centered on the emblematic figure of Pontus Hultén (1924–2006), this issue of R***e Faire explores the director’s publishing work during his time at the head of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, from 1960 to 1973. Director and founder of a number of institutions, including the Moderna Museet and the Centre Pompidou, Pontus Hultén published books throughout his career. Beginning in the 1960s when he was appointed director of Sweden’s first museum of modern art, he fully embraced the challenge of the exhibition catalog, even becoming involved in its design.
