From 2nd to 13th September, Charley Hamilton Show Jumper headed south to the iconic Hickstead Showground with a team of MFS horses to compete at The All England Jumping Course, Hickstead September Tour. Already there with MFS Ebenezer for the Al Shira'aa British Young Horse Championships, she was joined by MFS Jorina Bella, MFS Loretta Blue and MFS Caydence for an unforgettable fortnight of competition.

✨ 𝙈𝙁𝙎 𝙀𝘽𝙀𝙉𝙀𝙕𝙀𝙍 (5𝙮𝙤 𝙗𝙮 𝙀𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙧 𝙕)

Competing in both weeks of the 5-Year-Old Qualifiers, Ebenezer produced some fantastic rounds to qualify for both 5-Year-Old Championship Finals. A single rail in the first week's 1.20m Championship and two rails in the second week's final didn't truly reflect how well he jumped throughout the tour. After several weeks competing at one of the UK's biggest international venues, he leaves Hickstead with a huge amount of experience, confidence and ring craft for the future.

We couldn't be prouder of this talented young horse. 💙

✨ 𝙈𝙁𝙎 𝙅𝙊𝙍𝙄𝙉𝘼 𝘽𝙀𝙇𝙇𝘼 (6𝙮𝙤 𝙗𝙮 𝙅𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙏𝙉)

Fresh back in work after a winter break, Jorina Bella travelled to one of the biggest and most imposing showgrounds she has ever seen. Charley's aim was to give her valuable experience, and she delivered in style with three fantastic double clears, including a win in a 1.10m Newcomers class.

She qualified in both weeks for the Hickstead Novice Championship and the All England Open Championships. The atmosphere of the International Arena proved overwhelming in week one, but by week two she showed just how much confidence she had gained. Unfortunately, when faced with a double beside Hickstead's famous water jump, Freya spotted the water and decided that wasn't on her agenda! Charley wisely retired and left her with a positive experience.

The improvement she showed over the fortnight was incredible, and we're so proud of both horse and rider. 💙

✨ 𝙈𝙁𝙎 𝙇𝙊𝙍𝙀𝙏𝙏𝘼 𝘽𝙇𝙐𝙀 (10 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙕𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙘𝙤 𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚 𝙑𝘿𝙇)

Returning to competition following three months of rest and rehabilitation after injury, Loretta Blue gave Charley some lovely rounds throughout the tour. She picked up two double clears in the 1.20m Open classes and a fantastic 3rd place finish.

At this stage it's all about rebuilding fitness and confidence, and she certainly looks to be heading in the right direction. 💙

✨ 𝙈𝙁𝙎 𝘾𝘼𝙔𝘿𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙀 (7𝙮𝙤 𝙗𝙮 𝙈𝙁𝙎 𝘾𝙖𝙮𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙃𝙃)

Ownwd by Charley and following her excellent 3rd place in the Turriff Show Grand Prix, Caydence headed to Hickstead for her next challenge. She jumped beautifully throughout the tour, producing super double clears to qualify for both weeks' Championship classes and recording 6th and 8th placings in the qualifiers.

The International Arena tested her confidence during the first week's Championship class, but Charley made the right decision to call it a day and regroup. One week later, she returned to the same arena looking far more assured and produced a lovely round for just a single unlucky pole.

The improvement from week one to week two was fantastic to see. 💙

🌟 A Huge Achievement

It's important to remember that Hickstead's International Arena is a very different environment to what most horses experience on a regular basis. These horses travelled the length of the UK to compete against some of the biggest names in British showjumping, and every one of them rose to the occasion.

The experience gained over these two weeks will be invaluable for their futures, and we couldn't be prouder of how they all conducted themselves throughout the tour.

A huge thank you, as always, to Charley and her family, whose patience, skill and horsemanship continue to bring out the very best in our horses.

His dam MFS DE-NIRO'S WIE MUSIK is by the legendary DE NIRO and is out of a maternal half-sister to the late Olympic superstar DESPERADOS FRH.

What an incredible week at the British Dressage National Championships for our MFS-bred horses!

This year, seven MFS STUDFARM-bred horses qualified for eleven championship classes, and six of them went down the centre line to represent our breeding programme on one of the biggest stages in British dressage.

Sadly, MFS Neverland and Abi Lyle never got the opportunity to showcase their talents after Finn developed a rash the day before their competition, but we know their day will come.

⭐ 𝑴𝑭𝑺 𝑬𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒚 (𝑭𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒛)

Owned by us and ridden by Danielle Hardwick Dressage

Sparkle contested the Medium Gold Championship, her first experience at a show of this calibre. Despite the atmosphere, including enthusiastic applause from neighbouring arenas, she took everything in her stride.

True to her name, Sparkle brought plenty of sparkle and expression to the test. The score was looking promising until the counter canter section, where she decided that flying changes were far more exciting! Nevertheless, the experience will have done her the world of good.

One thing is certain... Sparkle has discovered she absolutely LOVES her changes, and we can't wait to see what she and Dani achieve in Small Tour classes during 2027.

⭐ 𝙈𝙁𝙎 𝙕𝙖𝙘𝙠'𝙨 𝙇𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙘𝙮 (𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙕𝙖𝙘𝙠)

Owned by us and ridden by J Morley Equestrian

Zack qualified for both the Prelim Silver and Novice Silver Championships.

The week didn't get off to the easiest start when Zack suffered a slight choke on the morning of his first class, causing a rather stressful beginning to the day. Thankfully, Justine got everything sorted and made it to the arena.

In the Prelim Championship they produced a lovely test for 68.40%, finishing 15th out of 45 combinations after a tie on scores. There were plenty of highlights throughout the test, including numerous marks of 7.

After a well-earned break between classes, Zack returned for the Novice Championship looking refreshed and ready to go. Again, there were several marks up to 8, but like many talented young horses, Zack decided that flying changes were preferable to counter canter!

Considering Zack is only five years old and this was Justine's first ever National Championships, they both came away with invaluable experience and a very bright future ahead.

⭐ 𝙈𝙁𝙎 𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙚'𝙨 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 (𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙚)

Owned and ridden by Ellen Glover Dressage

Ellen and Morricone's Love delivered a polished and harmonious performance in the Medium Silver Championship.

Having worked their way through the levels and secured multiple Regional Championship titles along the journey, they once again demonstrated their quality on the national stage.

Their final score of 67.47% secured an excellent 8th place from 35 combinations.

⭐ 𝙈𝙁𝙎 𝙅𝙖𝙭𝙭 𝙅𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙧 (𝙅𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙍𝙎2)

Owned and ridden by Jack Noble Morris of Robb Dressage

Jack and Jaxx Joker produced a superb performance in the Novice Silver Championship, earning an impressive 71.129%.

The test was packed with marks of 7.5 and 8, and but for an unfortunate error of course resulting in deductions from each judge, they would have taken the championship title.

Instead, they finished a fantastic 3rd overall, confirming what an exciting partnership they are becoming.

⭐ 𝙈𝙁𝙎 𝙇𝙪𝙭𝙚 𝙐𝙩𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙖 (𝙇𝙖𝙨 𝙑𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙨)

Owned and ridden by Amy Schiessl Dressage

Luxe Utopia competed in a highly competitive Novice Gold Championship, producing a quality test featuring multiple 7.5s and 8s to finish 5th on 71.387%.

The pair then returned for the National 5-Year-Old Championship, where they finished an outstanding 4th place, scoring 82.8% and missing out on the final by a tiny margin of just 0.8.

✨ Way of Going: 8.8
✨ General Impression: 8.4

To know that we bred the 4th highest placed 5-year-old in the UK is simply phenomenal.

The star of the Championships had to be MFS Quality Always Wins.

Jack and "Q" produced a superb performance to win the Medium Silver National Championship, taking the title with 70.472% from a class of 35 combinations.

Seeing an MFS-bred horse stand at the top of the National Championship podium was a truly special moment.

They weren't finished there either.

In the National 7-Year-Old Championship, they went on to finish 5th in the UK with a score of 73.434%, receiving:

✨ Canter: 8.0
✨ Submission: 8.0
✨ Perspective: 8.1

To see these two horses finish 4th and 5th respectively in their national age-group championships was a proud and unforgettable moment.

As breeders, moments like these represent the culmination of years of planning, sleepless nights, hard work, setbacks, early mornings and an unwavering belief in our breeding programme.

However, none of this happens without the talented owners and riders who invest their time, trust and dedication into these horses. Breeders need riders, and riders need breeders. Success comes through partnership, and we are incredibly grateful to every owner and rider who has chosen an MFS horse.

To have one National Champion, a National Championship Top Three, an 8th place finish, a 4th placed 5-year-old in the UK and a 5th placed 7-year-old in the UK all in one week is beyond anything we could have hoped for.

🌟 From Foals to Finals 🌟

I was absolutely delighted and honoured to be invited by British Dressage to contribute to the National Championships programme, which was published today.

As breeders, we dedicate years to carefully selecting bloodlines, raising youngstock and nurturing potential, often not knowing whether those early decisions will ever result in success at the highest levels of the sport. To have our breeding programme recognised on a national stage is incredibly rewarding and something we are very proud of.

This season has been particularly exciting, with several MFS-bred horses achieving qualifications for the National Championships. Watching horses that were bred and raised here go on to succeed with their riders around the country is what makes all the hard work worthwhile.

We would like to wish all of the horses carrying the MFS prefix the very best of luck at the Championships this week. We are immensely proud of everything they have achieved and look forward to cheering them on.

With many breeders now beginning their EHV vaccination schedules for broodmares, I wanted to reshare this Horse & Hound podcast that I recorded in May 2025 from a situation we encountered back in 2022.

EHV is something I feel incredibly passionate about. Having seen first-hand the impact it can have, I know there is nothing more devastating for a breeder than an outbreak of the abortion strain of Equine Herpes Virus.
