The Birth Partner Project
The Birth Partner Project is based in Cardiff, Wales.
We provide volunteer birth partners to women from the asylum-seeking and refugee community who would otherwise face birth alone.

Launching our new Impact Report for 2025-206!
At The Birth Partner Project our charity year runs June - July, and this report takes a deep dive into the qualitative impact for our Mamas from our support from July 2025 - June 2026!
Our researchers Jacky and conducted in depth interviews with Mamas and Volunteers to really understand what their experiences with The Birth Partner Project were like and how they feel.
The evidence is in - and the impact from our project for these Mamas is larger than we could ever have imagined!
Here is a quote about the Overarching Theme that emerged from the data:
"The mamas’ stories illustrated that the consistent holistic support received from TBPP, complementary to good clinical care, provided the most positive pregnancy, labour, and postnatal experience possible. The continuous and caring nature of TBPP support made each mama feel safe, seen, and held “like family”."
We are so honoured to be able to support these women, and we are glad to be able to continue to be here with and for this community.
Today, at our 10 year celebration event, presented the findings, and you can read more on our website here: https://www.birthpartnerproject.org/our-impact

We support the Black Maternal Mental Health Week UK 2026, led by , which starts today!
Every year, this is a week where people and organisations raise awareness of the mental health experiences of Black mothers and birthing people, amplify lived experience and call for meaningful change across maternity, perinatal mental health and wider healthcare systems.
🌸This year their themes are: Joy. Justice. Journey
👩🏾💻 We will be attending the Black Maternal Mental Conference Watch Party
👉 To join us at that event, see the full programme, or find out more visit: https://themotherhoodgroup.org/bmmhw26/
The Birth Partner Project sees first hand how hard navigating the maternal mental health challenges and services can be for the Mamas we support. We are grateful to be able to refer our Mamas who need it to the NHS Nurture and Navigate group. This group is specifically for women who are seeking sanctuary in Cardiff and Vale, and who are in the perinatal period (pregnancy up to 1 year postnatal) providing group based wellbeing intervention based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT will support you to manage thoughts and feelings that are painful or difficult. It will also help you think about what is important to you and help you to connect with your baby. There are also new groups like the PANDAS , offering much needed perinatal mental health space for support, monthly connections and a cuppa with other Mamas and birthing people who are seeking Sanctuary.

Birthdays are for sharing with your community and we would love for you to join us!
We have been talking to our Mamas about what Birthdays mean to them:
- Remembering first birthdays in the UK, first birthdays as a Mum
- One Mama shares her birthday with her daughter!
- Seeing birthdays as an opportunity to celebrate or remember our own Mamas
And we shared how we like to celebrate:
- Spending time with friends and family or taking time to celebrate yourself
- Gifts and surprises, or gifting yourself some self-care
- Favourite foods
- Lots of cake!
- Singing and dancing
- Photos: either taking new ones or revisiting old ones
All of these you can expect at our event - especially the food, there will be lots of great food as we believe food is great at brining people together.
A big thank you to our event sponsors who have helped make this happen:

We accept donations all year round, but a birthday is a fun time to make a Wishlist! Us reaching our 10 year milestone means we can continue to support more Mamas & Babies - and all these donations support them directly!
There are 2 ways to donate to us:
1) Physical donations can be sent to our registered address: Trinity Centre, Piercefield Place, Cardiff, CF24 1LE. We then sort and store them at Big Yellow Self Storage thanks to their partnership with us!
2) Financial donations can be made via our website (https://www.birthpartnerproject.org/donate), or our platforms on local giving, muslim giving & give as you live
Donations are always valued and appreciated... but maybe extra on our birthday!

We supported our first Mama in September 2016 - 10 years on, we celebrate our 10th birthday!
Founded by four friends who saw that people were giving birth alone in Cardiff, and agreed that no-one should have to!
Now we are a team of 40+ volunteers and 3 part-time staff.
We are a small in charity but with massive impact and value for the Mamas we support.
Thank you for supporting us during this time. Every volunteer, donation, recommendation, follow, like or comment is a big support for a small charity like us - and has helped us exist for this long and support so many Mamas. Thank you!

Do you believe that no-one should have to birth alone?
Evidence shows that the presence of a birth partner can have significant positive benefits in labour and delivery.
The Birth Partner Project relies on a strong cohort of volunteer birth partners who work in teams to support our Mamas, and we are planning our next training cohort for Autumn 2026.
If you're interested to become a Birth Partner or you have questions you'd like answered about the role - do get in touch via our website or our email: [email protected]

😍One of our Mamas supported recently shared this lovely feedback with us, and we wanted to share it with you.
❤️This is exactly what the Birth Partner Project is here to provide; companionship around birth and early parenthood. Someone who you can trust to be with you when it matters most.
🤰Our Birth Partner Volunteers form a team around each Mama, providing weekly visits in the lead up to the birth, a 24 hour on-call rota around your due date, and then weekly visits until your baby is 2 months old. We provide friendship, can provide donations where needed, and we aim to help build a community around our Mamas in the process.
