Yesterday was National Fox Day! And, as I know that we have a lot of foxy fans, I thought that, even though it is a day late, it was worth having a Fox for a Friday! So here is today's offering - characteristically shot in my own style to highlight the secretive nature of our foxes. I am delighted to announce that this weekend - Saturday 19th September - I will be appearing at the Park Cameras Wildlife Day. This is an event hosted by Park cameras that is designed to appeal to all wildlife photographers of any level. Come and listen to a host of varied talks (two different ones by yours truly) and get to try out some of the latest kit from leading manufacturers. It's totally free to attend any of the talks, but you will need a free ticket for each one that you are planning on attending! The venue is Park Cameras Burgess Hill Store located in West Sussex. My first talk, having just checked this, is now waitlist only (sorry!). However I still have space for my second talk - 'Stories behind the shots' which will be looking at some of my latest projects, including the low angle project that I have been doing. Expect lots of chat, tips, awful jokes and a lot of cool images. Link in the first comment but you are going to have to be quick for this one!

Oh and if that doesn't tempt you, then a little bird told me that Sony are going to have some of their brand new superlight 400 and 600 mm lenses to try out!

Today's offering for you lovely lot is an arty hummer! Now this might not be to everyones tastes but I really like the drama that this one offers. I think something (especially with hummingbirds) too much emphasis is put on trying to freeze the wings, I think sometimes this can make the subject look frozen, and given that hummingbirds are some of the most active species, freezing them doesn't feel quite right. I shot this one with a (relatively speaking) slow shutter speed to capture the wings and a strong backlight did the rest! Hope you like it.

Its that time of year when the short listings are announced for the British Photography Awards. These awards are slightly different as they cover a whole spectrum of photography (sports, fashion, food, portraiture + loads more), and looking through the 2026 gallery is a genuine pleasure. But you can also help to choose the people's choice from each category. Another puma for today and this one is Dania (not sure about the spelling) - she was spotted by Suzie (who typically was looking for birds). Anyway our whole group was able to spend an awesome afternoon with her as she hunted, napped and then went back to an old kill. I was able to take this using the raking very late afternoon light - darkening it off to preserve the detail and beauty of her coat. Interestingly Dania is much more golden coated; a totally different colour to Petaca who was much greyer in colour.

A few of you asked about the mating calls that I mentioned in one of my previous posts. I will try to find some footage and clean audio so you can hear it for yourself!

A puma from patagonia for today and this is Petaca, one of the most well known females of the Torres del Paine. This was actually an action shot of her calling to her mate and during the trip we were able to find her a few times; including with her mate. I'd never heard puma's calling like this before so it was a first for me, though I suspect for a few of you it is quite a common sound to hear! Thanks again to the whole ground team and trackers for they exceptional help

Another Iberian lynx for today from my trip a few weeks ago. I am also heading out there again at the weekend as I just can not get enough of these lovely cats. The return of the Iberian lynx is one of the greatest conservation success stories of recent times - back in 2002 there were less than 100 left in the world, and species extinction was a very real possibility. Thankfully conservation efforts were very much successful and there are now estimated to be well over 2,000 in the wild - including this lovely female!

Shaggy Boy the very old yet cool male, who we spent a few hours with on our final morning in Tanzania. I love having the opportunity to work over a decent period of time with a single animal rather than dashing from one place to another, you not only get better pictures but more importantly a better experience too. When we found him he was just chilling in the shade of a rock but the sun eventually started to peek around the edge which gave me the chance to do something with the light. As you can see I had my usual selection of Sony lenses to work with but this image was not taken with any of them but instead the amazing new RX10 V which I absolutely love. Anyway it's a great camera and more importantly an epicly beautiful lion!

I always wanted to shoot the iconic eagle hunters of Mongolia so last year with my snow leopard group we did just that. These horseback mounted tribe are amazing as they ride whilst carrying a whopping golden eagle on their arms - from someone who has held a lot of golden eagles I can tell you this is a very impressive feat! I wanted to shoot it always in my own style, too easy just to do the straight on sun, so when I saw the backlight potential I got one of the riders to just stand right in it against the mountain, the cold and the light did the rest. Time for something a bit different and I've said it before on here but it's probably worth saying again. My job is to take pictures that mean something - so they have to tell a story, or evoke an emotion. Today's I hope is the latter and a simple image of a langur monkey taken in atmospheric light. But my question to you all - how does this image make you feel? For me this image has a definite feel but I would be keen to hear whether you think the same as me - or whether you have a different interpretation.
