Tommy Sees Tigers Sn**ch Sky Blues Win!
Full link to website: http://www.ccfpa.co.uk/?p=146818

Well sadly it wasn’t the result (or Sky Blues performance) to grace the club’s home return to the top flight for the first time in a quarter of a century. Unfortunately there were plenty of CCFC ‘stars of the past’ present at the CBS Arena yesterday afternoon to see Hull City sn**ch their single goal victory with a second half breakaway goal against the run of play.
Top billing was our ‘special guest’ Tommy Hutchison down from his Scottish home who saw the 2026 Sky Blues fall a bit short in the flair department which had been exemplified by ‘Tommy Hutch’ in his Sky Blues pomp over fifty years ago. Frank Lampard’s men held nearly 70% possession yet failed to create the chances and shots necessary to get the much needed 3 points.

Tommy’s 1970s playing compatriots (and fellow Association members) former midfielder Barry Powell and former ‘keeper Bill Glazier (over specially from his Spanish home) were amongst our FP members who were present and watched CCFC dominate the midfield without creating the quality of cross necessary to trouble the Tigers’ goalie.
Fans were able to meet the trio around the main stand, as Barry did book signing sessions of his new autobiography with Tommy and as the Scottish ball player did numerous Q&As with several other CCFC alumni including our committee members Dave Bennett and Dave Busst and club match-day host Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts ‘around the lounges’ prior to kick-off.
Sadly our FPs were not permitted by regulations to enter the field of play at half-time to greet the bumper 31,000 crowd. However post-match the trio joined more fan and CCFPA’s Billy Bell down in the Arena’s G-Casino where CCFPA’s Billy Bell conducted Q&As with each of the trio from the stage of the Lady Gs lounge.
The trio met fans, doing selfies and autographs and Barry shifted a few more books before everyone departed hoping that the Sky Blues can pick up their first Premier League point(s) of the season at top of the table Manchester City next weekend!

Thanks to Barry, Tommy and Bill for making the club’s first top flight game in 25 years an extra memorable occasion.

‘Bakes’ Is Our Friendly Friday Night ‘Special’ Against AS Monaco!

full link: http://www.ccfpa.co.uk/?p=146061

Last here at the CBS Arena as our ‘special guest’ for the Sky Blues Good Friday Championship clash with Derby County last march we are pleased to announce that our popular and wholehearted former Sky Blues captain and midfielder Carl Baker will be repeating the role later this week. ‘Bakes’ will be back in Coventry this Friday night when Frank Lampard‘s men take French Ligue 1 Monagasque side AS Monaco in their second pre-season international home friendly.

After that (eventually) comfortable 3-1 win over Spanish side RCD Espanyol last Saturday afternoon ‘Bakes’ will be hoping to see the Sky Blues continue their preparations with another win prior to kicking off their first top level league match in a quarter of a century. This will be against perhaps the most difficult opponents they could face and on their own patch (the Emirates) at reigning Premier League champions Arsenal. In addition it may well be they will be facing prolific ex Sky Blue striker and CCFPA member Viktor Gyokeres!!
Look out for Carl pre-match doing Q&As around the CBS Arena supporters lounges in the CBS Arena main stand with some of our prominent CCFC Former Player guests including Dave Bennett and Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts. At half-time ‘Bakes’ may well go pitch-side to receive what will be sure to be a wonderful welcome from another excited crowd at the home of the Sky Blues.

After the game Carl will join CCFPA chairman Billy Bell down in the Arena’s G-Casino where the duo will appear in front of CCFC fans on stage for some lively reminiscences of Carl’s Sky Blue days from the stage of Lady Gs Lounge Bar.

Carl will also be the ‘special guest’ an main speaker at the CCFC Diamond Club autumn meeting in September!
If you need reminding the 43 year old Merseysider runs his own Soccer Academy in the Coventry area having also joined local side Nuneaton Borough for the 2018-19 season.

This was after his second short term spell with CCFC from March 2018 was still-born when a recurrent injury received whilst training for a season with Indian SL side ATK (Atletico de Kolkata) prevented any appearances there or for the Sky Blues. On leaving the Borough in January 2019 Bakes joined Brackley Town before rejoining the Borough in summer 2021 and getting a buzz from playing in the same team then as son, Louis from that August. Louis has featured for Darlaston Town and for 2024-25 was again back at Nuneaton Town (though currently appears to be taking a break from the game)!

In November 2021 ‘Bakes’ joined the new management team at the struggling National League North club AFC Telford United as assistant to manager Paul Carden and did not fully hang up his boots, turning out for non-league club Quorn in 2022-23.
In recent times ‘Bakes’ has been diversifying his sporting portfolio. A few days after competing in our own annual sporting reunion Golf Day 2024 at Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club Carl flew out to California with good sporting pal, professional golfer Robert Rock. Robert had qualified for that years prestigious US Open Golf competition held at Pinehurst and asked Carl to act as his caddy for the event.

In addition ‘Bakes’ has also now qualified to become a professional referee – poacher turned gamekeeper
Carl spent just over four and a half years with the Sky Blues in his first spell here making 182 appearances in all competitions and scoring 28 goals, having previously played for both Southport and Morecambe and joined Coventry City from Stockport County in January 2010. He moved from the Ricoh to the MK Dons in September 2014 and contributed fifteen goals in his 72 appearances for the Dons before moving to Portsmouth for 2016-17 where he was a team-mate of another recent Sky Blue FP and skipper (& fellow CCFPA member) Michael Doyle.
During his first spell with CCFC he became one of our most popular and committed players and has always been a huge supporter of CCFPA, for example, entering a team and playing in more than one Golf Day. Carl will be remembered for his skill on the ball and wholehearted commitment to the Sky Blues team, Club and community.

Carl raises considerable funds for charity particularly leukaemia and lymphoma research and continues to follow the Sky Blues fortunes, attending games in the past at the Ricoh/CBS and elsewhere when his commitments permit.

Bakes regularly graces us with his presence as a ‘special guest’ and a few years back represented the Association at the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph in Coventry’s Memorial Park in honour of the fallen of all wars.

Stop Press- Maxie Comes Off The ‘Specials’ Bench Tonight As Bill Indisposed!

FULL LINK: https://www.ccfpa.co.uk/?p=145942

Sorry to report that we have been informed this morning that our member, CCFC’s goalkeeping legend of the 1960s and 1970s Bill Glazier has been forced to withdraw at the last minute from being our ‘special guest’ at the Sky Blues pre-season friendly against Spanish side RCD Espanyol. Normally superfit Bill had been hoping to shake off the worst of a recent chest infection to attend the game but the condition had not improved sufficiently for him to take the flight over from his Spanish home so he sends his apologies. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery and hope to see him here at a game later this season!

Fortunately a more recent Sky Blue ‘star of the past’ has readily stepped in to the breach at short notice, our popular recent forward Max Biamou! He happened to be over in the UK from his French home on other business and was happy to become our ‘special guest’ tonight and pre-match will be touring the now considerable numbers of upgraded supporters lounges in the CBS main stand doing Q&As with several of our former player members including long-time club host Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts. Hopefully he will be able go pitch-side at half-time tonight to greet the excited Coventry fans who get the first chance to see at their Coventry home the players who won the Championship last year (plus some new signings) who will be meeting the challenge of the Premier League for the first time in a quarter of a century. After the game Maxie will join CCFPA’s Billy Bell on the stage of Lady Gs in the Arena’s G-Casino for some more fun and games in front of supporters. Thanks Max for coming off the sub’s bench so readily at short notice!

As if you need reminding the now 35 year old Max was born in Creteil, France in November 1990 and left the Sky Blues in May 2021 on the expiry of his contract and then moved north of the border to join Dundee United the following October. Max became the Association’s 275th current Full Member back in June 1991 and later posted back a photo with his official CCFPA tie.

Max spent his formative years in Bonneuil-sur-Marne, later training as an amateur in the French capital with the Centre De Formation de Football De Paris (CFFP). Apparently his early career development was hindered by both injury and education (whilst studying at University for three years). On graduation he played football locally before embarking on a career in French non-league football with clubs including Villemomble Sports (2014-15) and Yzeure (2016-17) scoring on average every fifth game.

Venturing to the UK for the first time for football purposes Max joined Sutton United for season 2017-18, a club well known to Sky Blues fans as the non-leaguers who knocked out First Division Coventry City out of the F.A.Cup at the Third Round stage just two seasons after the Sky Blues had won the Cup at Wembley! For the National League side Max knocked in thirteen goals in 49 appearances.

Max was signed by the Sky Blues in June 2017 to try and help Mark Robins‘ men pull out of the bottom tier of English football at the first attempt following the previous season’s ignominious relegation. In that first CCFC season Max played in the vast majority of games either as a starter or off the bench pulling on the first team shirt 49 times in all competitions and contributing nine (sometimes audacious) goals to the Sky Blues play-off promotion success (scoring a vital brace in the second leg playoff semi final 4-1 win at Notts County). Whilst not as prolific as perhaps hoped Max impressed with his wholehearted industriousness, flair and usefulness both in defence and attack with his heading ability.
Sadly, in August 2018 he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and could not play in League One for a substantial period of time pulling on the first team shirt only five times. At the start of the 2019–20 season the Sky Blues tried Max on the left wing but Mark Robins did not rate the move a success. Instead Max was used more as an impact player off the bench and contributed a more than decent eleven goals in his 26 games (with only ten starts) as the Sky Blues walked away with the League One title in a COVID truncated season!

His last season with City in the Championship was not so productive for the amiable skilled striker, however, as Max grabbed only six goals in his 35 appearances in all competitions though all his other positive qualities were always on display!
So Max left CCFC with the well wishes of the club and the Sky Blue Army paying tribute to Mark Robins and his staff for making him a much better player than when he arrived and thanking the fans for the warmth they have always showed him as he took pains to make himself available to support the Sky Blue family at large. Dundee United gave him three run outs from the bench from October 2021. Max had to wait until February 2024 until he got games for another outfit signing for Doncaster Rovers with a short term contract until the end of the season and scored a decent two goals in his seven appearances.

He has been back at the CBS Arena (and Wembley) in recent seasons supporting the Sky Blues. Max was also back at Legends Day 2023. Max has had a relatively short career in the game (fifty two goals in 221 first class appearances over just over seven seasons with six clubs) and it is clear CCFC will always hold a special place in the heart of our French FP. We look forward to greeting him again at tonight’s pre-season friendly (k.o. 17:30).

See you all up there PUSB
